I hope next year the different motor· cycle clubs across the United States would have one event where the profits go to the privateen going to the 1982 ISDE. Kathy Wanta from the AMA told us that the AMA cannot keep funds separate for this project. So we would have to have a separate group of people to ~t this together. We would be more than happy to help with this. This year we were not able to suppon all the privateers so we decided to give the money to our three privateer desert racers who qualified: Scott Atchison. Chip Howell and Morris Norman. They have already proved they are one of America's best so we just want them to Imow we'll pray for a safe trip for them and want to wish them the very best of lucltl WIST AmeriC8~S weekly motorcycle newspaper KATHY MILLER lit MINNIE ASHCRArr Huntington Beach, CA Sbanm Clayton. If it wasn't for the great support as sponson, the series wouldn't have been as prominent as it was. AME would lilr.e to also thank the many racers who have participated in the wann weatber. in one of the best series so far. With all of the prizes being awarded to nightly overall win· ners, drawings that were held for various products. we know just about every one benefitted, one way or another. Please help support the contributing sponsors. by buying their products. Without each other's help. nden and sponsors could not profit. A special thank you also goes out to Indian Dunes Park Mana~r Walt James and Assistant Mana~r Gary Lamb, and to the whole Dunes crew that helped prepare and maintain the International Track. We hope to see you all once afUn next year for our ninth annual Summer Series Classic 1982. On Aug. 25 the Pacific Nonhwest Bell Telephone Company's Olympia· bued Community Relations Team, the Thunton·Grays Harbor ORV Advisoty Committee, and the Thunton·Grays Harbor ORV Sports Park teamed efforts to sponsor a benefit motocrtlll at the ORV Sports Park. All proceeds from the event "(ere donated to the Thunton and Muon Counties Handicapped Recreation Councils. These two non.profit organ· izations strive to provide handicapped citizens in their respective counties with a comprehensive program of rec· reational activities and community events. On behalf of the sponsoring organi· zations, we would like to take this opponunity to extend our sincere appreciation to all the families, partic· and spectaton that ipants. participated in making this benefit event a success. It is not only rewarding to see that this event provided essential additional funding to these community organizations, but it is mOlt rewarding to have shown the general public that motocrou riden care about the people in their communities with special needs. We would also like to extend a special thanlr.a to some very special folb who volunteered their entire weekend and race experience in imp1ementing the program: Buck Murphy who coordinated the race program; Tom Tracey who staged and staned the motOl; Gene Smith who coordinated the traclt preparations and maintenance during the races; Dan McCarthy who handled the chores of referee; Annie McCarthy and her team of score keepen, and the entire Phil Larsen family, Phil, Kay, Phil, Mike and Tim, who drove water truCD, strung bannen, stacked tires, and provided invaluable advice. A "big.tip.of.the·hat" goes to Milte's dad, Don Kidd, who started and baclted Mike's racing career all the way to the Grand National championship. Also to Milte's wife Sandra, his mother Vera, and last but not least, his brother Gary, who have supported and cheered Mike on through the many National races. I have been Milte's racltetball partner, his flight instructor, and his trail riding buddy for many yean. Mike you have been a great inspiration and yes, idol. to my three boys. They all admire you.
