Roberts. on hand at the Winston Pro Series National at Ascot. said. "I want the !!OOcc crown again. then I'll think seriously about coming back (to the U.S.! to race." Both Gary Scott and Randy Goss showed a good deal of sportsmanship in the winner's circle ceremonies at Ascot. Scott showed up to congratulate Kidd on winning the title while Goss, winner of the National, gave his garland of flowers and the champagne to Kidd saying it was his night. In addition, Goss took a Number One plate from his bike and relayed it to Kidd for a proper celebration. "Next year. I'll save them for next year." said an obviously disheart· ened Jack Sisemore in the Gary Scott pits. Sisemore. one of Scott's major sponsors. was referring to the T-shirts he had saying "Gary, Scott Grand National Champion." "My riders .. Hank and Gary Scott - have finished second in the title chase the past two seasons." continued Sisemore. "We'll be back strong next year and we're going to win the title." Gary Scott has amassed an enviable record of top placings in the final standings during his decade of AMA Grand National Championship racing. Scott. who won the title in 1975, has never finished lower than sixth. His tally reads one title, five second place finishes, a third, a fourth, and two sixths. One incident marred the Ascot National program a bit. When Randy Goss. Mike Kidd and Gary Scott were introduced to the crowd prior to the start. during Scott's intro Terry Sage. one of Randy Goss·· mechllnics. booed loudly. Sage continued to boo as Scott gave him a cold stare. When Scott told him to stop. Sage motioned him to come over and discuss things. It ended there. but feelings apparently still run hot from the near fight which occurred at San Jose the previous week. when Gary. his brother Hank. and Goss' crew had some angry words over an oil line leak on Goss' bike which resulted in Scott being sprayed with oil during their heat race and eventually led to Goss' disqualification. Charles Sanders, a spokesman for the Atlanta Braves, squelched the rumor that the 1982 Supercross event in Atlanta Stadium has been canceled. "We don't have a contract for a motorcycle race in 1982, but we certainly haven't said there won't be one. Every year there is talk about the problems we have preparing the field for the baseball season following the motocross, but we've always been able to work the problems out." Yvon DuHamel (Yam) made another foray out of retirement to compete in the Formula One (motorcycle) road race held in conjunction with the September 27 Canadian F-1 (auto) GP In Montreal. DuHamel won easily when the race wes finally flegged off on a wet track after numerous delays and schedule changes. canadians Ken Modi (Suz) and Colin Glbb (Kaw) took second and third. The 250cc event, run concurrently with the Formula One. saw Americans Dave Busby (Yam) and Craig Morris run 1-2. DuHamel, according to correspondent Marc Lachapelle, "hasn't lost any of his ability or drive. He would like to ride at Daytona and said he would be willing to come back under good conditions. If he gets some factory assistance or can work out something with Yamaha Motor Canada and Bob Work then I think we'll see Yvon at Daytona." DuHamel rode the Don Vesco/Bob Work Yamaha TZ750 at Montreal, the same bike David Aldana rode to a fourth place finish in the '81 Daytona 200. British road racer Dave Potter died on Thursday.
