TEN YEARS - AGO 00 0') r-- Triumph-mounted Gene Ilomero tightened the points race for the AMA Grand National Championship with a victory in the rain-delayed half mile National at Oklahoma City. Eddie Mulder made it 1-2 for Triumph with a runner-up finish, while points leader Dick Mann placed fifth. Kenny R.oberta (Yam) won the Junior race. M ~ ..c o ... u o Adolph Weil debuted a new radial fin Maico 400 in the 500cc International class 'of the Elkhan Lake, WI, TransAMA and came up a winner. Suzuki's Sylvain Geboen and Husky's TorHef Hanlen finished second and third. just ahead of first American Mark Blackwell (Hus). In the 250cc National class, Doug Grant and his AJS topped the Tim Hart/Maico combination. Overseas. Phil R.ead and his private Yamaha effort clinched the 250cc World Road Racing Championship at the season-ending Spanish GP. In the 1%5 GP Championship, Angel Nieto took advantage of Barry Sheene'l late season rnisfonunes to win the title for Derbi. Jody Nicholas took his 11th main event win of the season at Ascot Park, besting Mark WilliamI in the Expcn half mile. DenDy Xanepe took the Junior c1.... while the heat and main event wins turned in the Novice c1... by Scott Brelafonl extended his Ascot win Itreak to 18_ Suzuki introduced three new twostroke triples in SllO. 550 and 750cc dispacements. The 750. as you may remember, wal water-cooled_ Ted Kennedy, Jr. - from nonhero California. not Massachuasetts - won the 200cc shan track championship at the Chris Beck Arena in Santa Rosa, CA. The Four Aces M.C. held a GP out in the desert - Willow Springs Raceway - and desert riders topped the action. In the 250cc class. Larry Pfutzenreuter posted the win, while in the Open Amateur/Experts, it was Rich Thonra1cbon and Bill Bogner taking the top two spots_ It was fair time in Kansas. and at a half mile accompanying the state fair in Hutchinson. BSA rider Charlie Seale took the Expcn main over Sonny Burres.. PftItOn Gerber was the overall winner in the Desen Striders' 80-mile hare 'n' hound in Utah.
