Eric Graybeal charged to first in a wild 125cc Schoolboy ,event. Greg Duvall came out of turn four headed for the white flag after .stealing the lead from Randy Turbett on hip four, with Graybeal making it a three-way contest. Duvall's Yamaha skated a little too much and Graybeal and Turbett got out front for the last lap. The 85cc Modified 12-14 year race was the best of Sunday's Youth competition with Chris Carr and Rusty Rogers battling for first. Carr's Yamaha was long gone on the first stan as Rogers got off poorly. The race was red-flagged after a multi-bike collision littered turns three and four. On the restart Rogers took the lead and it was Carr's tum to stan last. "I think the bike hit a false neutral," said Carr later. "It must have been in founh gear.'; Carr wrangled through the pack an,d swooped in on Rogers' Suzuki in the last set of tUrns before the checkered, but couldn't make his attempted inside pass stick. 'Carr came up half a bikelength shan at the check· ered. Darren Davis zapped the 85cc Stock 7-11 class with a strong ride and was looking to do the same in the Modified event, but bhioans Eric Stunip and Mike Ludden set a fast pace as Davis slid out trying to make amends for a bad start. Ludden cranked his Yamaha out to a giant lead at the flag, taking Stump's Yamaha on lap two. Robbie Blagg and Duane Duvall battled in the 100cc race, with Blagg leading and then crashing as Duvall took over. The race was stopped following more crashes but after the restan Duvall was back in command, with Blagg battling up to second at the checkered flag after a seven lap charge. \ • Results (Top, from left to right! Rusty Rogen, 13, led the .10 powerful contingent with wins in 100 and 125cc racing on Saturday, followed by the 85cc Modified 12-14 win on Sunday. . Mark Hanley, 15, snagged the 250 and 500cc races, besting hometown favorite Honda mounted Charlie Bowles in both events. Jimmie Oliver rounded out the Virginians' attack on Saturday with the 200cc class win, while brother Robbie claimed the 85cc Stock 12-14 c1lU1 in Sunday's Youth ~t. Ray West won his second CODlecutive 65cc 7-11 championship, adding aoother nurnbet' one to the' Virginian stockpile. "We've got a track that's a lot like this back home," said Hanley referring to Niles' quaner mile oiled surface. "The only thing 1 had to do was drop a tooth (in gearing) on the 500cc and we were ready to go for the weekend. 1 think Charles (Bowles) runs a lot of half miles and we run a lot of shon track, 10 1 think that gave me an edge, but he was alw~)'5 there during the races." Hanley rode a pair of Casey Cycle City Hondas to victory. New Yorker Steve Flach and Michigan rider Ric Richards broke the Virginian trophy sweep with wins in Open and 560cc racing. Richards rode his Bultaco to a first in the 10 lap final of the !l60cc race, besting Californian Curtis Cannon's Yamaha. Steve Flach brought his Harley· Davidson XR750 and topped the Open division. Ray Garrett on a Triumph and Ron Bell on a Yamaha renewed last week's Amateur National IT Championship Open battle in a contest for second in the Open fmal. Garrett carved through the comen for second. Jimmie Oliver hooked up and took his Bultaco to a wire-to-wire win in the red-flagged 200cc final. "I got out there, got my holeshot, and didn't look back. I think it ~as a real good day," said Oliver afterward. Cyeleland's Rusty RoKen was the force that had to be deaft with in the small bore classes as the Suzuki mounted rider dominated 100 and 125cc racing with conviDcing victories in both finals. "I like riding the 1251 the best," said Ragen after his wins, "they have more motor." Ohio's Larry Pegram staned off Sunday'.
