Although most people who see sidehaw race truly enjoy seeing them in action, it is regrettable that we will be unable to do so because of the cancellation of the Aug. SO Women's National MX at Carlsbad. If you wouid like to see us race at your track, let your club promoter know. I'm sure all women racers feel as I do, that we put on a respectable performance. I will surely miss seeing all the top women racers in action. Someday I hope that all aspects of motorcycle span will have their chance to show their stuff. Accounting Mike Klinger. Manager. I suggest bringing the 175cc class back to the ranks of motOC!'OllllI I know there aren't any 175cc motOCJ'Oll bikes, but it wouldn't be hard to convert your 1T175 or KDX 175 into a serious motocross mount since they share many components with their 125cc motocross brothers, Or, you could drop a 175cc motor into a 125cc chassis, even bore your 125 out to a 175, if there's such a kit. After about a year. the factories would catch on and build a 175cc production motocross bike. Maybe 1985? Just think. how fun it would be to ride a bike that weighed about the same as a 125cc and had nearly the power of a 25Occ. 1 think. the 175cc class would be an exciting class to race in, and would be great for a lot of guys like me who are too big (160 pounds) and old (2S) for the 125cc class, yet aren't quite up to racing in the 250cc classl Let's hear it for the 175cc class. Come on; let's get some responsel JAYC, MONTGOMERY Port Orchard, W A Buslne_ 101 - a primer I had to laugh a little after reading "Shaft job" by John Lamb in the Sept. 2 (Cycle News issue IS4) "Voices" column, Mr. Lamb seems to have little understanding,of the business commun· ity and why cenain products are available to us, and why some are not. John, manufacturers make products to sell at a profit to wholesale distri· butors who, in tum. sell at a profit to retailers who. hopefully, seU at a profit to individuals. Without profit, em· ployees don't get paid, and the manu· facturer. distributor or retailer ceases to exist. Everyone tries to buy for resale or manufacture only the amount of product that can be sold at a profit to consumers. Sometimes there are mis· takes which can take place at any level based on an array of variables (cash flow, COlt of money. etc.) leaving some· one over·inventoried or needing quick cash to pay bills, Price reductions fol· low and are timed not to upset anyone consumer but based on the immediate need of the business entity. As a retailer (not in the motorcycle business) and a Maico racer, I can assure you, John, that people don't sell things at a lOIS and stay around very long. Your timing was a little off, but I do know where you can get a good deal on skis. MIKE ROBERTS Ponland, OR JOE BROUSSARD Palmdale, CA Goln' to Sturgis Richard Creed's in-depth article on Sturgis in your Sept. 2nd edition was superb. I have yet to have the pleasure of attending the historic Black Hills Rally, which I've been aware of for a good many years. However, after reading C~'s very infonnative report, Sturgis now holds a much higher priority on my calendar. And. helmets off to lC. "Pappy" Hoel. for both his long·time dedica· tion to motorcycling in regard to the Sturgis c1assic, as well as for his cam· paigning efforts in building the White Plate Flat Trackers Memorial. It's a beauty, and I understand that a con· siderable amount of money for its con· struction came out of Mr. Hoel's pocket. That's true dedicationl BILL BAGNALL Orinda, CA Published Jettera do not nec:ea..-By reflect the poeItIon of Cycle N.... Inc. Send Iett8rs to VoIcea. Box _ Long Beach. CA9CI8O'J. Next week: Full story on Penhall's World Proflilionel motocroes trlIinlng By reference of our local Suzuki dealership here in Oherlin, OH, I'm requesting your help in locating a pro· fessional motOCTOllS school for our 15· year·old son. We'd prefer this to be in the Florida area. If you could be of help to us, I'd be greatly appreciative. Perhaps an article on schools would be of value to other readers. MRS, JUDITH BRYDEN Kipton,OH T~e are several motocross schools in operation around the country that we're aware of at this time. Each should be WIlling to a1lSUle1' any questions you may have regarding the Championship and the u.s. Trophee des Nations MX win!
