The wins didn't come easy for the Silver City, NM rider; David Copeland, from Lubbock, TX, and Alamogordo's Lome Wofford ran their Yamahas with him aU night, The 250cc main showed Narramore first into the turn with Copeland and Dave Confer. The three mixed it up for a couple of laps before Wofford took third from Confer and his Honda CR250R and held it until the Narramore-Copeland-Wofford finish. In the Open main, Yamaha of Alamogordo-sponsored Wofford took the hoIeshot in front of Roger's Tractorsponsored Narramore and George Ellinger. During the second lap, Narramore slipped by for the lead and held it while Wofford fought to keep Ellinger's Yamaha in third, successfully holding second for the finish. The 125cc Experts screamed the loudest during their main. Greg Rahn put his Suzuki through the tum first but was passed by Dion Dulany on a Yamaha on the way out during the start. By the second lap, the finishing order was revealed when Gerry Gross put his Yamaha ahead of Rahn for third, behind George Ellinger's Yamaha . Gari Straughen's victory lap after his 250cc Amateur main win resembled his heat and main performances: He was all alone on the straightaways. The El Paso rider put his Lone Star Honda/Art Schumachersponsored CR far enough ahead to ride unbothered all evening. But the race for second and third 250cc Amateur was unaffected by Straughen's lead. Randy Whisenart and his Bultaco were ahead of the Yamahas of Ken McCutchen and Elvie Addington on the first lap. By the second lap, Addington had slipped by McCutchen and was closing on the Bultaco. Addington passed for second on his futh lap but was repassed by Whisenart on the sixth. Whisenart held second before falling during the final lap, allowing Addington and McCutchen a second and third. In Open Amateur action, Ken McCutchen led Jeff Black until Black pressured and drove around McCutchen ,going into tum three on the fourth lap. Brian Conrad and his Triumph twin secured third after David GiJlreath learned he'd be workinK on his Yamaha after the races. Conrad parked his Triumph long enough to jump on his 125 Suzuki and lead the 125cc Amateur main until Elvie Addington's Yamaha outpowered Conrad on the back straight nearing the end of the fITSt lap. The two diced but settled in where they were for the duration with Perry Hisaw third. Results MN _ 1. sean e - lVom/: 2. _ HonheylVom/: 3..-. ~ lVomI. 125 NOlI: 1.
