Northern california-Northern Nevad.·Oregon-W.shington-ldaho-Utah-Alaska_C., NORTHr-'~ DATELINE Rod Chronister held off Fred Zelud for the 750cc Production win at PIR. by a Portland bike shop, took a lot of flack but once again found a way to win. The best racing of the day was in 430cc Production, with a five-bike pack contending for the lead in both heats. Robbie Adams won the first heat but seized on the last lap of the second heat, taking out himself and Gene Brown. Brown was unscathed. and Adams received only a sprained ankle. Mike Sullivan, an AMA Expert dirt racer and rapidly progressing road racer, turned in 3-1 finishes for the win. Jeff Doan, riding an immaculate and obviously fast cafe RD, won 600cc Cafe, which was once again the class with the most entries. Second and third places were taken by thumpers, the 500cc single Formula II bikes ridden by Gene Brown and Steve Haug. Joe Rodgers won the Oregon Motorcyle Parts $750 claiming race on an RE-5 Suzuki rotary. The bike was fast enough to win the class, which is beginning to draw out a good field, but was emitting enougn strange noises to discourage anyone from plunking down $750.
