RWIlIeIl Ragen of Corpus Christi edged Wise out for the holeshot at the start of mota one, but no doubt feeling the pressure from behind, Ragen had a meeting with a tree and was out for the day. Wise then treated the fans to a fine display of speed and grace. In the second mota, Wise sat back and let the pack kick and bump through the fint tum, then gave the crowd lessons in passing. With Royce Danner in the lead, Wise was closing in on Jimmy Sandvig on the long sand straightaway to take second when suddenly he went down, giving Sandvig one more lap before Wise could say, "follow me." Meanwhile, Danner could hardly believe he had not seen Mr. Wise for five laps. Just when he began to think maybe he could hold on, Wise decided it was time to get down to business and left Danner behind. South Texas race fans appreciated Steve taking time out from a busy schedule to race with the home folks and hope he will soon be back in top form. Jack Homer aboard a Honda CR80 was able to steal some of Wise's thunder by his outstanding riding. As usual, he easily won the Senior Mini class, but the real show was in the ll!5cc Novice class. Paul Pedenon had the holeshot in both matos, but was only able to hold on for half the race each time as Mike Gesell from Brownsville stayed stuck to his back fender waiting for his chance which came midway in both motos. In the meantime, Homer was giving the rest of the field a fit and finished fifth in the fint moto. Jackie, who is not used to being behind, took second behind Pedenon at the start of moto two. When Pedenon faltered, Gesell slipped by Homer to take fint, and Jackie had to be content with second for the moto and overall, leaving the rest of the riden wondering what he could have done on a 125 instead'of an 80. A large group of riden from Monterrey, Mexico made . their presence known by placing in several classes. Next scheduled races will be held July 19.
