Langley leads ARRA Willow SprlngsRR By Lori Tyson ROSAMOND, CA,JUNE 14 Willow Springs was run backwards by the American Road Racing Association to keep things interesting. and it did add a few surprises for the riders. In one of the first practices of ~ day, right bikes went down in tum two reportedly due to some oil on the track, but there were no major injuries, and most of the bikes were still able to race. The 600cc Box Stock race showed Boots Langley. on a GPz5S0, and JOKph Bnuce11a. on a 550 Seca, swapping the lead throughout, while a few riders tried taking shortcuts through the infield brush. Langley stuck it out and took the cbeckereil flag.fust. In the 450-6OOcc Super Street match, George Gereau, in the 600cc class, and Steve Gerki, in the 450cc class, were dicing pretty hard until the fifth lap when Gerki dropped out due to me· chanical problems. Gereau took the win in the 600cc class. Clinton White· house and Dave Behrendr; taking sec· ond and third in the 450cc class behind R. Drusen, had a real battle going all the way to the end. The Sidecar race started out being led by Nakagawa/Gill with Garoett/ James right behind. But on lap four Nakagawa/Gill t.ooIr. tum four, at the top of the hill, a little too fast and flipped it. No one was hurt, but it tooIr. them out of the running. Garnett/ James went on to win it, but not with· out a struggle from second place LaPierre and Nelson. The last race of the day was a new class, the C1assia. There were some beautiful motorcycles entn"ed in this one, including MatehJesl, Ariel, Royal Enfield, BSA, and Nonon. The winner . .
