B8ja - telling it like it is This is in response to "name withheld" regarding the AFM Budweiser 6Hour at Rivenide. I question how rich the purse would be if it weren't for the ability of the factory t~ams to draw crowds and create interest in the race. I do, however, agree with splitting the pot to give the privateers a chance. How about a bonus for the top privateer team? TONY McANDREW Western Sales Manager Continental Tire Corona, CA I read Rod Frazier's anicle on riding in Baja with great interest and appreciation for telling it like it is. I'm a long·time Baja lover and pan-time resident of PuertecitOll (not Puertocitos). It was nice to see this anicle. There are a lot of new generation riden that get into trouble - gas, food, etc. between the pavement and L.A. Bay because they've heard that there is gas, etc., only to find out that there isn't any. Maybe Rod's story will help some of them by preparing them for the worst, and that way they can enjoy the beauty of the country with less problems and downtime. Missed coverage I'd like to know why your reponer Karl Okamoto is blind to the other half dozen classes that race in AFM events. About all that is covered are the four or five larger groups. In his 125cc GP coverage he remarked that on how close the racing was. I guess he can't see those little, unimponant 450cc Box Stock bikes. I know how close it was - I was second_ KENNETH EVAN SanJose, CA Karl's not blind, Kenneth, but neither can he cover every class at a given race. "I like to get direct quotes for my articles," said Okamoto, who van'es the classes he covers from race to race, "and sometimes when I'm talking to racers, I miss another race, and I don't like to report on what I don't see. .. So in the meantime, congratul4tions on that second place, and keep on going - it could be you Karl will be quoting in his nut race report.. .Editor. If the picture of Mike Melton and his Husky which accompanied your coverage of the Redneck National Enduro was taken at the event, then Denman Shaffer should have taken his caliper along to meaaure the diameter of Melton's forlts. If you will compare the brochures with the picture of Melton's bike, I think that you will find that the bike is pure XC. Why the misleading information in the article?
