Graham and Jorgensen joining him. Morehead, Gary Scott. Eklund. Shobert, Goa and Rainey filled in row two with Boody and RoberU on the third line. Hanlt Scott pulled the field off the line with Goa gambling and taking a low line shot straight to turD one. It was a bad gamble which left him 11 th at the end of lap one. By the third of 20 laps Hank had ~ breathing room on Parker WIth Graham, Morehead, Boody. Gary Scott and Jorgensen in a tight bunch clOle behind. Morehead slipped off the groove in turD two on the next lap with Boody and Gary Scott quiCkly past. On lap six Eklund pulled off with a Oat rear tire. Hanlt held a distance on Parker who was fairly distant from the Graham/Boody battle which had broken away from Gary Scott/Morehead/ JOrgeDllen. Things were going along smoothly for Hanlt. "I was running so good that I was actually cooling it. The plan was to run just hard enough to keep a safe distance between me and second place," Scott would say afterWards. "The throttle studt wide open, and there wasn't anything I could do about it." said Ganh Brow after exploding the hay bales in tum one. "I saw Garth go into the bales," said Rainey. Poovey was getting a new rear tire, and quiclt work was going on to get Roberu back into the race. Rainey and Brow would not make the restart. "Come on. let's get the show on the road," said Hanlt Scott. itching to resume racing. Boody was fourth in the single file TeStan. but when they fmished the first go-around he was 10th. "There's no room for even the smallest mistake," said Boody. It was Hanlt, Parker. Gary Scott. Graham, JorgeDllen and Morehead in a bunch until Hanlt began to open up a lead lleemingly at will. JorgeDllen put a move on Graham for fourth, but Graham came right bad. Gary Scott was pressuring Parker when suddenly Parker's bike quit as the two exited tum two. Scott went high to avoid a collision and Graham was by in a second. "The gas tanlt came lOOIIe a lap earlier. and then the coil wire must have broken." explained Parker. The cast of winner's circle was set. No matter how hard Gary Scott hound· ed Graham he couldn't get by.
