The big day when literally hundreds of amateur riders will invade the Coliseum is coming soon. Everyone wants to ride the same track that the SupercrOllS riders are going to. This was the fourth chance that an amateur had to qualify with the host, California Racing Club. Indian Dunes was packed out with riders who traveled far and wide to qualify. The largest Pro race as well as the most exciting was the 125cc class. Suzuki-mounted Chris Heisser is not a normal Dunes participant, but he sure mastered the International track, which was completely modified and prepared nicely for the day's race. Heisser got the holeshot in the first moto and made it clear to the rest that he wanted to win. He led by a few lengths ahead of Jim Simons (Suz) in second. Soon Simons felt his machine losing power rather quickly and' this gave A.J. Whiting an opportunity to get on by. Immediately following the change in positions, Simons came to a stop due to a seized crank. Heisser and Whiting led the pack while Louie Franco had a good distance between the leaders and the rest of the pack. In the deciding final moto, Heisser took the top position again with WJ:Uting in second. Jim Pappe traded positions with Franco and Pappe was third while Louie settled for fourth. On the final results the top five riders were Heisser, Whiting, Pappe, Franco and Robert Laughlin. Doug Taft had one of his best weeks of racing ev~r. On Friday night he def~ated the 250cc Pro class, today he won the 250cc Pro event and was able to capture a' fourth in 500cc Pro racing. In the first 250cc Pro moto Doug ended up with the lead ahead of David Barbario and Randy Commons. In the final event Barbario DNF and this time Mark Parkerson had control of first place ahead of Steve Hutchens and Taft. On the official results they placed Taft, Parkenon, Hutchens, Commons and Joe Papp. Mark White was the king of the 500cc Pro class, taking the win in both motos. Dave Haugh on his Maico placed ahead of Ron Haase, Taft and Jeff Harriott. Results 10 JR: 1. c... 0llAmwn lYom/; 2. M.n< Mc:OonIId lYom/; 3. JIoon _100 III lYoml. 10 INT: 1. lOng _ lYom/; 2.
