The chainsaw market is growing steadily. therefore. Pioneer is expanding their dealer network to meet this demand. Pioneer would like to show you how. with a small investment and very little space. you'can cash in on those offseason profits. . Maico support rider Kevin Welch captured first Open Expert at the second annual Motorcycle Racing Association of Nevada-sanctioned Clover Creek Dusters Treasure Hill Grand Prix at Pioche. Team VaUey Cycles' Bobby Davidson (Yarri) powered to the 250cc Expert crown while Kawasaki West· backed Danny Anderson was victorious in the 125cc Expert race. In the age divisions, Ed Sivon continued his steady improvement with a triumph in his Over !l0 Expert debut on a Kawasaki West KDX250 and the venerable Ken Guio, of Big Piney, WY, persevered for the Over !IS Expert win over good friend Ron "Zoomie" Loomis. The race was in question until the last moment due to problems with some to~ members worrying about the motorcycles running too close to their homes, however, race organizer Floyd Bradley got things together and this year's run topped the success it was last year. • Said Bradley, "We wanted to race right down Main Street but we had to puU in our horns when we started to encounter problems with the land ownen." From the densely-brushed start grid the course followed familiar trails through town and fast sections leading to the mountains - then things started ~ interesting. Rocky uphill climbs were conn~ted with equally rocky de· clines that usually featured abrupt turns littered with shale rocks and motorcycle-stopping trees. A sixth gear blast through an old orchard and an· other stint through the woods brought the riders back through the pits for another shot at the 15-mile course. 1,'he Minis were the first to go and Paul Kline shot his Skip's Ameritone Paint Suzuki into the lead. Mike Bergman pushed his Kawasaki of Las Vegas KXSO ahead for the lead but suffered a horrendous endo when his throttle stuck WFO and little Bergie smacked a tree stump. Kline went by the fallen Bergman and on to victory. The big bores were next and the race for first was history as soon as Kevin Welch blasted his Mega 2 490 into the holeshot.· Welch was hot off a third· overall at the recent Cherry Creek Hare and Hound and stretched his lead to five minutes at the checkers and repeated his Treasure Hill victory oflast year. Running second Open Expert on the first lap was a returned-to-the-scene Kirk Bothwell, looking as fast as ever, with Maico-mounted Mel Chapman in tow. Ron "Zoomie" Loomis was first Over !IS Expert ~nd just off the Both· well/Chapman duel but he was slowed by a tossed chain and a later crash to turn the Over !IS Expert win to the consistent Ken Guio (Hus). Chapman was pressuring Bothwell and Kirk wrenched his foot on one of the downhill mountain corners. Mel held on for second Open Expert while Bothwell soldiered in a painful third. The 250cc Expert race saw favorite Mike Welch (C-A) crash on !he start and last race winner Paul Emerson (Kaw) off to a bad start when his KX didn't light up first kick. "Fearless Fred" Hansen celebrated his one-year- ADD ANOTHER ~-----------, Pioneer can offer you more than 40 years of chainsaw experience and marketing know-how, backed by a strong product and accessory line. which offers the best value per dollar. in this fast growing market place. AODRESS ago Baja crash on his new KTM ride as he led the first lap. Hansen was definitely the crowd favorite as he hails from nearby'Caliente, but it was Las Vegas "400" Iron Man Pro winner "Bobby Davidson who pressed his Randy Chambers'prepped YZ250H by for the win. Hansen remained second as he continues his return to form and Emerson recovered from his bad start to place third. Glen Wischmeyer recovered from a crash and last lap rear flat to place fourth while Mike Welch had a bad day including another crash and the usually fleet Ty Bothwell was slowed with a sick motor that never got adjusted to the 5500-foot elevation. Pete Delmue, of the neighboring town Panaca, led the 125cc Experts for the first lap but that came to an abrupt end when Delmue laid it down in the loose sweeper entering the pits. Bill Hill, Jr. led briefly on his Vegas Cycles' Suzuki Floater but mechanicals dropped him from the race as well. "Dynamite Danny" Anderson inherited the lead on his homemade KX125cc water·cooler and never looked back as he smoked in with a five minute lead at the checkers. In just two years the 'Ousters have made their race one of the best on the MRAN calendar and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. Don Akers, the Purvines, Floyd, Jr., Eadie Bozarth, JOOy Maeder and the rest of the club and town people who. helped are to be commended for their efforts. _I.
