World Championship 250cc MX Series: Roundflve' Czechoslovakia GP to lobe, .Guerra sixth By Jack Burnicle HOLICE. CZECHOSLOVAKIA. MAY 24 A further gripping episode in the battle for World Championship 250cc MX supremacy between reigning champion Georges Jobe and the quiet man from Britain, Neil Hudson took place in Czecl:toslovakia. The result after two blister· ing head-on' contests round a . long. ~estmg track, was a nar· row VIctOry for the confident Belgian. who headed hoth motos for most of the distance with Hudson snapping at his heels but unable to prise a way through. An untidy first moto start featured a sweepiog 180 degree left-hand bend mid-way along the main straight. With Dave Watson and Erkki Sundstrom already stranded with their clutches cooked, Johe headed Raymond Boven, Hudson and Kees van der Ven into the bend as Italian dervish Maurizio Dolce hurtled straight on at undiminished speed! Friu Kohele, Soren Mortensen and national idol Jaroslav Falta ·were in trouhle in the first turn and a red flag briefly appeared, totally confusing late startqs Watson and Sundstrom who hoth momentarily turned back. Yamaha's Hudson ploughed round Boven on !he second place and clOlled on Suzuki's Jobe. For the rest of the race the gap remained, for the Englishman, frustratingly constanf around a couple of seconds, with Neil never quite able to get on terms. Van der Ven rode to a lonely third ahead of Rolf Dieffenbach, tbe German having produced one of his typically spectacular surges through the pack from midfield. Husky's Mike Guerra also came a long way through to claim a courageous sixth ahead of fading teammate Boven and Heinz Kinigadner, who had been a first lap faller. Kobele followed the tall Austrian through and captured tenth place from Dolce on the final lap after the Italian had ridden himself into the ground following his drastic early error. Mortensen came to massive downhill grief on the sixth lap, splitting his helmet in the ~rocess. Boven headed the exCiting second moto from Hudson and Jobe. but OD lap three he unintentionally blocked the Engliahman's move round the outside and Jobe nipped joyfully through the gap to take a lead he never forfeited, despite the closeness. of Hudson's attentions. Van der Ven, Laquaye, and Guerra filled the next places ahead of Dieffenhach, harging through after a first lap fall, and Watson. Falta, cheered all the way hy the vast crowd, missed out on points hack in eleventh spot behind Matt Tarkkonen. • Results OVERALL: 1. e;-geo .Jobe ISuzl; 2. Neil Hudoon IYoml; 3.
