AfteT some wrestling that only amused Skip juTtheT, I finally Tolled it OveT, fiTed the motoT and Tode out. As CTaig Crippen and Scott Neal fTom Honda and my kid Shelly wat£hed, Skip chaTged the same hill. TTaa.1&g Craig's and my tTacks, he followed a diagonal path up its granulaT face to within 10feet of its crest. By then it was appaTent to everyone - even Skip - that he didn't have enough momentum to carry him OveT the top. The standaTd move at this point is to try and turn the tn'ke downhill befoTe it stops and cartwheels down all by itself. Skip made it. A cleveT 110° tum had the A TC aimed stTaight down the steep sandbank, diTectl) towaTd the hole I'd vacated only seconds eaTlieT. Skip went faT the bTakes, the shifteT; he dTagged hisfeet, but it wouldn't slow down! He tn'ed turning. The fTont wheel tucked undeT; the TeaT looped slowly oveT. Skip's helmet planted itself in the sand, neatly as a tent stake, and the ATC tumbled into the hole, a perfect Tepeat of my A TC's performance. Once again, laughteT echoed in OUT valley ofsand. Once you learn how to ride a bicycle, they say, you never forget. The same cannot be said of tricycles. Pismo Beach is located four hours north of Los Angeles on the California coastline. Huge sweeping sand dunes, like ones you've seen in photographs of the 'Sahara Desert, curve and rise almost mountain-like voicing a silent challenge to the mere man on his tiny motorized tricycle.
