Ted Taylor once again taking the win,
Jon Nunez second and Jon Noyer the
fim Novice.
Steve Mayfield had the 100cc Expen
class all sewn up with some fancy
racing lines that held Winkie Freitas in
line until Winkie forced the issue and
madr an inside move that left Mayfield
down and out. Kun Chandler took the
non·disputed event for second place
with Dean Vincelet in for third, both
riding Salinas Kawasaki KXs.
Oregon had a new kid on the move
in Robbie Bla~ down from last
night's ST at Chico. He borrowed the
rear wheel off Chris Carr's 100 and put
the Goodyear to good use, winning
125cc Novice/Junior in a come·from·
behind battle. Ron Risk was second
with Rick Frisk in for flfSt in the 200cc
affair.
Chris Rudy overcame the Saturday
night jitten to win the 250cc Novice
show on the Rudy Arco Yamaha while
Danny McDonnell took second on his
Honda. Greg Gray led much of the
250cc Junior event in good style but let
Chris Carr get a wheel around in a
fantastic pass that put the Can·Am
rider way out front for the win.
Billy Arbogast led off the. hotly dis·
puted 250cc Expen run but got wide
off the number four comer, letting
A1exJorgensen have the lead, and that
was that for the win. Mark Key got by
along with Dave Boyles for second and
third with Billy holding onto fourth
after some hairy scary crashing went
on around him.
Once again, Don Clasby took 500cc
Novice like taking candy with Kirk
Howell in for second. Jim Cutts had
the hot line in 500cc Junior despite
some great racing and passing attempts
from John Carter. The two really had
a good battle going. Kelly Bennett had
a little problem with his brakes and T·
boned Cutts, taking him out. He then
made a pass on the fast departing
Carter when his sprocket knock·off
came undone. Brian Pedro held
second to the checkered with Roy
Fischer in for third.
Rich Arnaiz couldn't afford the trip
back East and took the 500cc Expen
heat win on the Mike Macedo Const.
TT500 with some fancy wheelstands
that Papa Wealey just loves. In the
main event, he led the crew for most of
the distgance but made one calculated
mistake. While setting up the wheelspin
off the last corner, he slowed slightly
and collected Mark Key who was right
on him waiting for the chance to make
a move but wasn't quite ready for that
one. 80th were off in a heap with Dave
Boyles malting it by the mess fint and
takin~ the checkered with
Doug
Chandler back to action for second
over Marv Lewis and Aaron Hill.
After the races, with a plate of bar·
b·que beef and the knowledge of the
results of the Louisville National, most
all the assembled were joyous. Alex
Jorgensen was keeping up a good front
knowing that Jimmy Filice had beat
him out of founh in the points but also
knowing that the little kid that raced
here so long was doing well. Hope
reigns supreme for the local troops. •
