There was quite a good turnout of racers for this Memorial Day event at Indian Dunes. In the first round of the Open Pro race, Foothill Yamaha rider joe Root took the lead with International's Yamaha's Bill Hagen in second and third being filled by Yamaha su pport rider jim Holley. Root had to drop out of the race due to bike problems and gave the lead to Hagen. Holley put the pressure on Hagen, then took over the lead. However, Hagen regained the lead when Holley developed a flat rear tire. Even with the tire problem. Holley put on quite a race and finished second ahead of Kern Sporteycle Husky·mounted Greg Torgerson. In round two it was all Holley from start to finish with Hagen taking second and Torgerson again third. Overall it was Holley, Hagen and Torgerson. The 250cc Pro race saw Canoga Park Suzuki·sponsored Blake Schwaru· man taking the lead from the start, followed by BG Oil Honda rider David Lynch and O'Neal Yamaha rider Doug Lawrence. Lynch and Lawrence passed Schwartzman to take over first and second, with Schwartzman finishing third. Round two began and ended with' Lynch in the lead, Kern Sportcycle Husky-mounted Randy Lewis in second and Lawrence settling into third. The overall win went-to Lynch with his back to back wins. Lawrence took sec· ond and third went to Lewis. The 125cc Pro race saw Suzuki rider jim Pappe taking back to baclt. wins . Moto one had Pappe taking the holeshot, followed closely by BG Oil rider Robert Laughlin (Suz) in second. Third was filled by Yamaha rider Todd Broussard. In round two it was Simi Cycle's jeff Harriott taking the lead from the start with Laughlin and Suzuki rider Randy johnson in hot pursuit. However, from baclt. in the pack, Pappe was working his way up to take over the lead. When the checkered flag came out it was Pappe with the moto and the overall win, with Laughlin in second and third going to Harriott. Adam Ford (7]'s Yam) took the back to back wins in the Open Intermediate class with Crossroads Suzuki rider Fred Hudgens in second and third going to Eric Dattola. The 250cc Intennediate race saw Rob Mansfield taking the win with second going to CT06S1'Oads Suzuki's Eric Silgero and third to Simi Cycle Yamaha rider Kenny Parry. In the I25cc Intermediate race we had Suzuki of Van Nuys/Kal-Gard·sponsared j aclt Greenberg taking top honors while Suzuki of Bakersfield rider Gary Curtis settled into second and third went to BG Oil/O'Neal Hondamounted jon Zahrt.
