David Cham· ben. on his Yamaha swept the field in his fint moto, breaking away into a strong lead, leaving Aaron Boulger to hold back the rest of the pack. A tight duel for third overall shaped up be· tween Honda racer Chuck Pegg and Jim Ryder. By the end of the moto. Chambers led the 9·11 class with Boulger close behind. Pegg scooped up his fint of a pair of aces for the 12 and over gang, followed by Ryder. a close second. Running second from the start, Wiseman took command and fought to hold Swank to second and Robert Laughlin to third. Laughlin was inches away from Foothill Yamaha's Robbie Healy in fourth. When the checkered flag waved them home, bringing the madness to an end, Wiseman took home top money for the day, Swank took home second place loot and third place honon went to Laughlin. CRCnlght mInIcross to Cline By Lee Taylor VALENCIA, CA, MAY 22 The 9·11 80cc Stock Beginners brought their fans trackside for one of the hottest races of the night at the California Racing Club's night minicross. The fint time out David Chambers. Yamaha·mounted for Kal·Gard, took command and surged ahead into a strong lead, leaving in his wake Aaron Boulger. piloting a Suzuki for Cane Brake Inn. and T&O Yamaha entry Troy Cline. Paul Matthews, ahoard a Yamaha for Coast Auto Parts, was smoking! He worked his way up through the pack, fint up to third and by moto's end. into the lead. Cline was second and Chamben finished third. When the machines blasted off the line for their second round of action, Cline took control. He found Matthews glued to his tail in second and Boulger in third. fighting off Chambers. When the checkered flag waved them home, Clint took home top honon, Matthews crossed over to second overall and third overall went to Bouger. The 80cc Modified Beginners com· bined the g.1\ riden with the older Holley picked up a fine pair of aces, clinching his place on the line at the July 12 Amateur race at the L.A. Coliseum. On the lint moto start, Holley pur· sued Honda-mounted David Lynch, riding for BG Oil and Works Performance. Holley finally took command and left 2SOcc Pro Tom Webb with his hands full, fighting off a pack of race· hungry Pros. Holley steered a clear course for Yamaha, down to the wire with Lynch close in second and John Biffle, a Honda rider from Kolbe and new to the Pro ranks, snatching third and holding on. In the second round Holley once more took command. Again a Yamaha/Honda duel took form with Lynch breathing down his jeney in second. For Biffle, it wasn't his night, and he was beset with problems and pushed back in the pack. B\ake Schwanman, the Canoga Park Suzuki entry. malted third and held on down to the wire. Holley came home to top dollar for the night, Lynch clinched second and third overall went to Schwartzman with a 4·~ ride. The USee Pro troops saw their fmt moto leader, Jim Simons, Suzuki· mounted out of Simi Cycles. take charge and fight to hold off Robert Laughlin, John Drury and Louie Franco. Tight action prevailed when Perry Cendro took over founh and battled Laughlin to the end. When the moto drew to a close. Simons led the way followed by Drury and Laughlin. The second round of action found Drury and Bob Byrne, riding a Honda for his girlfriend, battling for command. Cendro and Laughlin pra· vided heavy artillery from behind, running third and fourth respectively. When the checkered flag brought the racers home. Drury claimed top money for the class, Cendros took sec· ond with a 4·5 ride, Laughlin gathered third overall honon with a 3·4 and Byrne. who crossed over in second, was resigned to a fifth overall.
