World Champ-Ionshlp.l25cc MX SerIes: Round4 Everts on topinWest Germany By Bruce Thompson GOLDBACH, WEST GERMANY, APR. 26 A second and fourth was good enough to hoist Harry Everts to ' the top of this season's 125cc World Championship point standings at the West Gennan GP at Niederwurzbach. The surprise of the day was Giuseppi Andreani taking wins in both legs to place him second in the tirle chase. In the first race Andreani shot his KTM into a lead he never relinquished. In the cloud of dust behind Gaston Rahier and Harry Everts were trying to fight off persistem auacks from Michele Rinaldi, Akira Watanabe and Erik Geboers. It took Geboers half the race to pass Watanabe. With 30 minutes gone Geboers spun his bike around on a dry but slippery. uphill section which brought a cry from the crowd, but he had time to get going before Watanabe arrived on the scene. Rahier evemually gave way to Everts and Rinaldi due to pain in the left hand he broke in practice two weeks before. After 10 minutes plus two laps of dicing Everts was only yards behind the leader as tbey crossed the checkered flaK. Rinaldi took tbird with Geboers next. and Rahier was ten seconds behind tbe pair but well ahead of Watanabe. Geboers took the lead from Andreani and Rinaldi in the second race. Everts was less fortunate at the take-off but was soon closing on Rinaldi, Watanabe and Rahier. The Jailer two tangled, delaying Watanabe so much he retired just after the halfway mark. Geboers dropped his works Suzuki on a slow bend and Andreani and Rinaldi nipped past before be got going. With three laps to go Rinaldi, Andreani and Geboers were again wheel to wheel; then Geboers dived to the inside on the last corner at the tOP of a 40 foot drop to the finish straight. Geboers and Rinaldi came to the drop for the last time together_ Geboers tried the same stum but this time his rear wheel kicked badly, the two toucht"o together and both came to grit"[ on the ground 40 yards from tht" flag! Andreani rode past the tangled mess to take the checkered flag. Geboers remounted first to take second while Rinaldi made it home only a few seconds in front of Evens. A protest was lodged by the Gilera team against Geboers for dangerous tactics and for taking his bike to the paddock and not the parc ferme after the race. ~ payfull shot goArst class!
