The heavily watered track led to some visibility problems for riders in the first few laps but soon the course became very fast with excellent traction helping leader Clark Jones' lap times. Jones kept the front position to the checkers while Jennings circulated in second. Wheelsmith Maico pilot David Williams pushed his machine in for third at the flag as Anaheim Suzuki's Scott Cavness picked up founh. Moto two had a switch in the lead as Jennings powered away with the win and the overall honors leaving Jones to the runner-up slot. Williams stayed strong throughout the moto to claim third place in the standings with Yamaha rider Bill Hagen taking home the founh place share of the purse. DG/tlonda rider Jim Tarantino pulled out all the stops as he danced his water-pumper CR to the 250cc Pro win. Tarantino's toughest competition came &om USGP winner Marty Moates who piloted the new Suzuki Floater to second in the first race. Moto two featured Tarantino in the star position as he jetted to an early lead. Tarantino took a couple of unscheduled trips to the turf and for a while it appeared Moates might snatch victory away from the Honda rider. Tarantino regained his pace quickly after falling and held on the win. Moates went home with the second place money as Yamaha riders Greg Zitterkopf and Tony Wanket grabbed third and founh, respectively. La Habra Yamaha rider Mike Beier and Suzuki support rider Gary Denton each topped a moto of the 125cc Pro clash. Unfortunately neither com· pleted the other moto and Suzuki rid· er Ted Brady picked up the victory with two fme second place rides. Jeff Stanford pushed his Yamaha to third place in both races to eam the runner-up position honors and cash while Suzuki-mounted Richard Sands claimed third with a 5-5 score. Results OPEN PRO: 1. SUNNYMEAD, CA, APR. 25-26 The Over The Hill Gang's National took place here at DeAma. It was their fourth annual; a twoday event with half hour motos. The track was challenging and several of the Old Timers can personally verify their encounters with DeAnza dirt. As time moved on the track improved, and 45 Old Timers had two great, funfilled days. Our sincere thanks to Ed Michetti and the Over The Hill Gang for making it happen. Also to Betty Bird for letting us share in her birthday celebration. Marvin Olson of Masters started things out on Saturday by wrapping up the overall win with a 3-1. Ray Sanchez took second place by way of a 2-4. Michetti zeroed in with third place. Expen George Spearing took first with a 1·2. Chuck Nation took second with a 4-1. Bill Byrd's 4·5 gave him third. Buzz Moeller was in there with a 2-7 for founh. Victorious Amateur Bob Beasley had himself a day as he wrapped up a 1-I.Jan Van Hotan scored second with a 3-3. Gene Powell took third place with a 6-3 and Ed Scheidler put himself intofounh. The Novice win went to Dal Calais who got a 2-1. Chuck Bailey made a good showing with a 1-3 which gave him second place. Everette Hatler was in for third with a 4-4. Howard Zimmerman took founh. Sunday's performance began with Olson doing all the right things at the right time and taking another overall first place win. Also repeating a good act . were Sanchez and Michetti. Sanchez took a 2-4 to win second and Michetti took third. Expen Spearing must have been programmed for success. He jetted in his 1-1 victory. Second place belonged to Nation with his smooth 3-2 win. Moeller was victorious with his 2-3 win which gave him third. Dick Frampton was in the winning circle with a 5-5 which gave him founh. Amateur Beasley did it again. He took a 1·4 first place win, and he certainy didn't win the easy way. Bob's bike seat fell off in moto two so he had to ride standing on the pegs for some 12 laps. That's no easy accomplishment. Scheidler took second with his 2-2 win, and looking good all the way. Powell ran away with another victory by taking third with his 4-3. Van Hoton won founh via a 3-5. Novice Bailey wrapped up first with a 2-2 win. Calais stayed in with the winners by taking second. John Starcrest's 7-1 wins got him a third place. Zimmerman took founh place by finishing 5-4. • _.
