And on Sunday morning, more than one truck, crammed full with scooters, turned around and headed out the gate before practice. The event was the Clarks Branch Winter Series Championships. As it turned out, practice was the wom part of the day. with the track turning out perfect for the 97 riders who stayed to race. And yes, there were some riders who actually complained when the track turned so nice. Dam mud riders anyway! It seems that there were many conflicting events throughout the region, causing for a very poor Pro turnout. With only two %505. four Opens and two 125s. it was decided to run all the Pros together. As the moto began, Eureka, CA rider Lance Burgess pulled his 465 O&E Cycle Full Floater Suzuki into firat. Second place was ftlled by Eastside Kawasaki-sponsored rider Skeet Hise. And just so things were in order. third place was filled by a 125cc rider. Kent~. . Burgns held his lead from start to finish. Hise held off ~ until just after the halfway flag when Egli pulled around and started going after the leader. Egli and his 125 were really starting to click around the track, and he was starting to make up ground on the Open rider, Burgeg. But just before the moto was completed, Egli fell, picking back up and placing second. Abo having a problem was Hise who dropped to sixth at the end of the moto, letting Dave Creech in for·third overall and second Open. Hise stili place first 250. The second moto was full of surprises. Out of the gate. Creech and Danny Villapoto pulled down the straight side by side. but in the first tum, the two locked horns, slowing them down enouj{h for Egli to get into first with Burgess in second. This would not be the only time Creech and Villapoto would tangle as we will soon find out. 00 * .,elll * Penton Imports Company All 4 lOCATlOIiS 'I CfC" RiM' CElEBRATlIII :::,." $,q.1t; MONTCLAIR STORE Dlx21 BARUM KNOBBY R_., -:l2" 51••' I-~~~~:..'t:.---t sr l~h'~IOW HATCH IX GLaVES Reg S2~ IWhlle. y"IIUw Reo 9S Reg 51] 95 IEAI ....EI Reg SlS 95 Motorcycles on Display FANTASTIC SAVINGS!!
