Mike Rc-o led the third race until falling back to fourth behind Jack Penton, Suzuki·mounted Dean Joyner and Vic Ely. Penton WOD with a 711 with Joyner second at 7~S. ROIIIO got by Ely for third. In the fourth moto. Frank Stacy started the quickest and led the whole way with a winning time of 684 seconds. Teammate Jeff Fredette stayed within striking distance until he fell in a muddy section following lOme double jumps and ltilled his engine momentarily. He finished six seconds back with Darryl Kuenzer third at 7~5. Milte Melton took his Husky to the fifth moto win in 70S seconds with I~Scc rider Kevin Brown racing his Husky to second with a 7~S after faIlinK once. Rod Bush wu never headed in the sixth race u he won in 7~0 with Dick Burleson two seconds behind, plagued with a stielting throttle. Day One total individual ICOreI showed Cunningham !eadin the Open cIa. with IOS5 points f~owed by LaVoie with 1074. Colgrove wu two points in' back of LaVoie while Gallo held fourth with 108S. Stacy put hilDle1f atop the ~cc standings with 1050 £ollowed by Melton at 107~, Kuenzer at 1076 and Lojalt Cycles Husky rider Ed Lojalt with 1098. Pemon turned in the low 17Scc score with 107~ with Joyner's 1099 second and Ely third at 1I~6. Terry Seales on a Yamaha wu founh with 1165. Burleson's 108S bested the I~Scc class at the end of Day One followed by Bush at 1098, Huslty·mounted Gray Leonard's IISS and Brown with an IIS8.
