NORTHERN DATELINE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ' - - - - , HIli hauls twice ,at LocilST By Bill Spencer ...... Lom, CA, APR. 12 00 Short track racers who didn't make it to the Sacramento Mile were all early getting to the races at Lodi Cycle Bowl and the Lodi ...... M.C. was ready with another round of daytime shon track racing under spring conditions. For the other troops, it was late practice and shaded eyes as the late night prior didn't lend itself well to the early hour. One of those riders who did make it early was the winner. Alex Jorgensen didn't get a whole lot of sleep but was manning his corner as a member of the host club's flag patrol and received a great ovation for his earlier efforts. Racing was great despite the shon turnout of riders lately, mainly due to greatly increased gas costs. Pee Wee winner was Scott Bricker while Milr.e Macedo did the deed on the McGill Yamaha YZ80 in the Expen round after getting by Winlr.ie Freitas. Kelley Fishcer took the checlr.ered in second spot with Winlr.ie off the traclr. with chain troubles. Ted Taylor did a lot of passing to win the other 80cc class win with Vince Caramella taking the second trophy. Winlr.ie Freitas came back and blitzed the IOOcc Expert class while Mark McCall survived 125cc Novice and Larry Tofanelli was the remaining 200cc Novice for that big win. Shaun Reyna and Todd Beecher had a good battle in 250cc Novice and finished out front of that paclr. while Aaron Hill did a great set up and pass number on Chris Carr as the two former Mini wOOlers set the pace for the 250cc Juniors. Both are extremely competent racers and are loolr.ing forward to the days when they can ride the Sacramento and SanJose Miles. After a couple of starts, the 250cc Experts settled down to a freight train with Kim Jorgensen the choo-choo pan on his Jorgy Can-Am (it's his brother's) and Mark 'Key the coal train part on the McGill Yamaha over Joe Knijtht and returning Jon Eichelbaugh. Jeff Manins held the challenge of the Open Novices, winning over former Mini racer-turned-road racer Danny Kirkeby. Aaron Hill made it two for two on the day winning Open Junior on the Del Calsen Honda, picking up his Expen points in the process and getting the nod for the green plate from steward Ed Deathrage. Open Expen time was another great run and Dave Boyles answered the call with a wire·to-wire win on his Spinetti's Honda, repeating his Friday mght Ascot checkered flag effon. Marv Lewis has been learning his lessons well and took a good seco.nd place effon over Milr.e Hayward. Results PEE WEE: 1. SCott _ (SuzI. 80 EX: 1. Mike ~ lVom); 2. KoIIoy _ lVoml. 80 NOVIJR: 1. Heiberger hauls at CMC Baylands By Tim Meyer FREMONT, CA, APR. 5 Baylands Raceway (formerly Fremont Raceway) held its first motocross for the 1981 season under perfectly clear skies after being rained out two races in a row. The new track layout was well received by the nearly 200 riders and many spectators along with the improved concessions. San Jose's Jerome Heiberger led from start to finish in the first Open Pro moto for the win over Yamaha-mounted Donnie Hawlr.ins with Kelly Barry corning in third. In the second moto, Heiberger put his Can-Am into the lead once again only to be passed by Hawkins on the second lap. Hawkins then led the hard charging Can-Am till the fifth lap as Heiberger slipped past for the lead once again. Heiberger made it a clean sweep with Hawlr.ins having to settle for second and Don Walsh third. The always exciting 125cc Juniors put on a super show with Brad Wiget winning both Division One motos on his Yamaha, beating out Raymond Flow and Scott Phillip. In Division Two, Manny Ornellas put together strong 1-g finishes to win over Dean Butler's 6-1 with William Jones in third. Division Three was swept by John Cook of Los Basos followed by David Durham and Jeff Nicholson. John Beeman put together two consistent rides to Wln the 250cc Pro class over Kawasalr.i riding Tim Tremaine and jerry Brandt. Racing returns to Baylands April 26 for another CMC day race with new lights on their way for night racing 37
