Mogan back In
action at Mabton

By The Squisher
MABTON, WA, MAR. 29
Mabton Dunes Motocross Track
hosted the second race of its
Spring Series with over 200 riders competing. The order of races was revened for this race with the
Open bikes starting the program.
Blowing winds made for less than ideal
spectating conditions, but the racing
was fierce nonetheless.
Mogan David LaPierre (Sw) made
a triumphant return to the 125cc Pro
wars after a long layoff. Leon Mac
Donald (Yam) and Kevin Logsdon
(Yam) led the first moto followed by
Duane Morria(Yam) and then LaPierre.
The lead changed hands several times
between the two front-runners with
Morris and Mogan closing in. Both
I.opdon and MacDonald bit the dust
witll just a couple laps left giving the
victory to Mogan with MacDonald
able to move bad into second.
The second moto was a runaway
victory for Morris after Mogan got
caught in traffic as he tried to work his
way around Tim Kirk (Sw). Second
place in the second moto was enough
for the overall victory for LaPierre
with Morris second and Logsdon third
overall.
Chad Jeffery (Yam) overcame being
turned around at the start to score 5-1
moto scores which gave him first
overall in the 125cc B class. Kyle Fast
(Yam) was an easy winner in the first
moto but pulled off the trad for some
reason in the second while leading, letting several riders by and throwing
away a chance at victory.
Duane Marker (Yam) was racing for
the first time since breaking his leg
almost a year ago. Marker showed the
speed but not the stamina to lead the
first 250cc Pro moto until Andy Tudor
(Mai) reeled him in. Tudor also won
the second moto to give him four moto
victories for the day combined with his
Open Pro victories.

Joaquin area, hosted their first
ever short trad- event (and hopefully
not theiT last) at Lodi's Cycle Bowl today under threatening skies. The food
was excellent (steak sandwiches at a
bike race?) and the track raceable
after a reasonable delay to dry out a
track hampered by clouds Sunday
morning instead of sun.
Stocltton's Aaron Hill was the only
racer to register double victories as he
led wire to wire in the 500cc Junior
main after battling with Steve Mitchell
and Chris Carr for the 250cc win.
Track position aided Aaron most as he
held inside of Steve - who led until
lap eight - and fought off a wild pass
attempt by Chris on the outside.
Other Junior wins featured Fremont's
Ted Taylor who easily outdistanced
Ridy Gonzales in the 80cc class while
Robbie Dunham held off the 125cc
crew.
Experts David Boyles, Alex Jorgen·
sen, and Winltie Freitas also continued
their winning ways. David worked
through the pad to nail Dwayne Mc
Culin (xood to see you back, Dwayne!)
and Mike Hayward in the 500cc go
while Alex turned low 17-second
times on a narrow, occasionally
bumpy course for the 250cc first over
Mark Key. Winltie won a hotly contested 80cc Expert run over Mike Macedo
in a photo finish with Winltie getting
the nod from all three checlters.
Former Mini riders have literally
taken over the 250cc classes as Shawn
Reyna, Eric Green and Todd 'Beecher
raced in close tandem and finished in
that order in the Novice main_ Lodi's
Jeff Bingham nailed the main event
start over Shad Johnson to grab the
80cc portion while Jeff Martins
inherited the crash strewn 560cc go
andJohn Lamont aced the 500cc Beginners.
Short track racing continues at Ladi
beginning Saturday nights in May.
