N~ drainage and more jumps for those of you who like air have also been installed. The Parks department has worked their tails off and have done an excellent job. Be sure to test it out on the fmal race of the series April 5. . The sidecan returned to the park and what a show it was. Dick Thompson and Alex Raphael grabbed the boleshot on their 750 Yamaha Wasp, riding for No.1 Cycle. But by lap two. it was Mick Lumsden/Rob Lumsden on a 650 Yamaha Wasp in front and the din began to fly. In third and founh, joel Krick/Mark St~le (650 Yamaha/EML) and Mike PooIe/RicIt Tharald:son (500 Yamaha/ bomebuilt) had a see-saw battle going. Lumsden/Lumsden weren't about to relinquish their lead and Thompson/ Rapharl took a spill trying to ge( it bad, Iosi.ng too much time trying to ge( suned again. At the finish of moto one, it was Lumsden/Lumsden, Poole/ Tbaraldson, Thompson/Raphael and Krid/St~le. The stan of moto two saw Thompson/Raphael in front again with bunsdrn/I !!msden second, followed by KricklSteeIr and Poole/Tharaldson. By lap three, Lumsden/Lumsden had slipped by, but before the lap had finilbed. Thompson/Raphael had gained it back. This time it was Lumsden/Lumsden who flipped, but made a quid recovery and were back in hot pursuit. By the checkered, it was Thompson/Raphael by a foot over Lumsden/Lumsden. Rid Tharalcbon proved he isn't over the hill yet. Tharaldson nOI only caught a ride on the sidecan, but won both motOl in the Open B and Over The Hill classes convincingly. Two Jorgy'. strike at Hills Ferry ST I • I By Bill Spencer NEWMAN, CA, MAR. 14 I It was a night for both Jorgensen brothers at Hills Ferry short track with Alex riding his Jorgy CanAm to the 250cc Expert win I I .1 despite brother Expert XR500 40 accidents and restarts while Kim came home the 500cc winner on the Colin Ross Honda. The cold, moist nening was tainted with injuries. as a mid-race crash took out four nden with Doug Chandler and Danny Moore having to visit the hospital for broken bones. Both will be out for about six w~. Winkie Freitas continued to bash the Mini bunch and won the l00cc Expen main over Kun Chandler, Craig johnson and Scott Casey. Matt DeQ.uasie has waited lo~g enough f~r a win and the 80cc NOVIce was all his this night on the Yamaha of Sali~ over Kevin Ross. Ted Taylor Just turned junior and along with a n~ leather racing SUil, he won the 80cc junior class over jeremy Chisum ~nd Ricky Diaz, both riding out of Sahnas Kawasaki. Once again, the 80cc Expen class looked Iike.a National show, but the front runner was lhe same ole WinlUe Freilas on a KX80. Kun Chandler had to do the chasing, but couldn't get in for a pass with Mike Macedo coming from the back on his McGill YZ80 for third over Kelly Fishcer. Scott Casey and Dean Vincelet. Craig Scroggins just loves his n~ Can-Am and led out the fint 250cc Expen stan that had to be brought bad. The restan lasted only four laps when Bruce johnson was down in T-,3 and his bike caught Doug Chandler s ban and high sided the just-backfrom-an-accident kid into another broken leg, this time lhe right one ju,st below the kn~, Doug commented m the hospital that night, "As I went over the ban, I noticed another rider from the outside and kn~ it was Danny (Moore) and he really crashed hard." The number one Black Plate rider crashed hard enough to break his ann in two spots and received enough of a concussion to close one eye up completely and have the other one blacked out within 30 minutes of the crash. (As of Monday morning ~r. 16, both were reponedly recuperaung at home.) The reRan took some time, but it was Alex jorgensen in charge with Scroggins taking second over Mark Key on the McGill Yamaha and john Barnett founh over Dave Boyles and Scott Podergois. MAR. 15 The sun was up and the track was in great shape for racing as American Motocross Enterprises put on their bi-monthly event at Sprockets Park. One of the best and most exciting races of the day came when the 250cc Pros came to the line.
