"I hope this is a sign of things to come," said
Team Honda's Freddie Spencer after winning
the Superbike round in the Talladega Pro-Am
at Alabama International Motor Speedway.
"Everything went smoothly. The
bike ran strong and the only
problems I had were hitting a
slick spot in the infield and a
strong gust of wind about mid-race
that caught me unaware and changed
my racing line for me."
While Spencer was doing his thing
out front, the battle for leCond went
right down to the final inches.
Kawasaki's Eddie Lawson, by the
narrowest of margins, squeued out
second place from Yoshimura/Suzuki
rider Wes Cooley at the line. Fourth
and fifth went to Honda's Mike
Spencer and the Racecrafter's Inter-
national sponsored Kawasaki of Harry
Klinzmann. A slim field of 25 riden
was on hand for the event.

Wes in the infield," said Lawson. 1
think if I hadn't blown up my fast
motor in the heat race things might
have been different. 1 did have one
problem tbough, I went into a full lock
slide going into the chicane when I
tried to outbrake a slower rider and he
didn't know I was there."
Cooley was the talk of the piu not
only for losing the super c10le finish.
but for a spectacular save he made
mid-race when he got into trouble in
