The two Kawasakis of Eddie Lawson and Anton Mang rolled to the starting line at Daytona
surrounded by a horde of 72 snarling Yamahas. The yellow juggernaut was out in force,
ready to consume the 250 Expert Lightweight class with sheer numbers alone.
The odds against Lawson and Mang were staggering, but 100 miles later both
Kawasakis sat in the winner's circle: Lawson 1st and Mang 3rd.
To win Eddie out-powered the Yamaha.of Jim Filice.
Mang was equally impressive: his Kawasaki was the first
250 to be clocked at 150 mph down the Daytona straightaway.
Daytona is the world's toughest dyno. Winning and
setting records there is final proof of performance and
reliability. That's why Kawasaki races. So the engineering
proven on the track can be built into the street bikes you
ride.
Kawasakis are fast. And they go the distance.
Eddie Lawson knows it. Anton Mang knows it. And 72
Yamaha riders know it.
