Carr took the win with Hill second. The night before. though. the order was reversed. Grout second. In 250cc Junior, it was onner Mini Black Plater Aaron Hill etting off the line just in front of sixime National Amateur winner from ast year Chris Carr. Chris won't be 14 ntil April and will not be five feet tall ntillater in the summer. but is ready or big bike action tiding to second on ne of the Jorgensen Can-Ams with upport from ND plugs and Tsubaki hain. Steve Spenker tried to keep ose two in control but settled for . d in front of Vance Sherfield on he Yamaha Spons Center special. Getting the hoJeshot and the win for 50cc Experts was Mark Key on the cGill Yamaha YZ. Mark had his ands full of Alex Jorgensen for the ntire 10 laps, but there was no way round and Alex held the Jorgy CanAm to runner-up over Dave Boyles, Bruce Johnson. Danny Moore and Doug handler. That is such a finish order it bears ore. The track was great for practice ith just the slightest hint of tacky. but s the night wore on. the cold and amp made it a little slippery and here was little or no passmg. The reight train attitude prevailed what .th the frrst race of the season and eryone being rather nice to each ther. The usual partying atmosphere kept the practice line away until nearly noon Sunday when even more riders showed up than the night before. The track was once again very good and with more improvements to come for the Pro shows in April. the Central Valley of California should once again suppon great motorcycle racing. In the 250cc Expen run, it was Doug-is-back time. The nine-time main event winner at Fremont last year put some fancy moves together to pass around the outside and wherever he had to to lead the big one on his now infamous KX250 out of Salinas Kawasaki. Mark Key had the show going in but got just a tad wide in one corner and that was all she wrote for the finish line effort. Dave Boyles is looking very fine after a long off season and had third on the Spinetti Honda while Bruce Johnson brought fourth for Yamaha Sports Center of Seaside. In big bike competition, it was Stan Morris all the way In 500cc Junior after leading the 125cc class for ever so long· and then having the bike go away with Marv Dunham that winner. In 500cc Expert. there was just no stopping Kim orgensen on the XR500 despite con· tant pressure from Doug Chandler. he two put on quite a show with Mike Bad anodlZ«1 aJ.'u:m1num "'rMet-",ymolr Inderbitzen in for third over Kenny Netto riding Jerry Warren's TT500 Yamaha out of Salinas. WA, FEB. 22 Fast Phil Larson did it again at the Thurston-Grays Harbor ORV Park over the weekend. Phil raced in six 20-minute motos and was a clear winner in all six. Racing the professional circuit at only 16 (presently 17) has definitely made him the dominating force in the Northwest, along with his rapidly improving professional career. Keep your eyes on 44 in the 125cc Nationals. In the first 125cc Pro moto. the starting gate had a minor mechanical problem so a flag stan was used. It was Stacy Thornton and Bill Joyce out in front setting the pace, but before the lap ended. Larson had his 44 in front. Rob Manning, another brilliant prospect. was in hot pursuit. As the moto progressed, so did Fast Phil's lead over Manning. clear to the checkered. Joyce and Jack McGill went three and four respectively.
