Olympic Yamaha, one of the finest sponson in the Northwest, had both fint and second place riden. McGill, a powerful rider, followed his teammate to the checkered for second overall. Thornton on a Kawasaki took third, but it was Joyce .third overall and Ed Wagstaff fourth overall. Moto one of 250cc Pro was led start to finish by the blonde blitz, Lanan, The real racing was for second and third. Bob Buffaloe, a fast, improving and consistent Pro rider for Cycle Craft, finished second but not without a battle from Maico-Husky Northwest rider Eric Eaton. In fourth and fifth it was Ed Wagstaff and Tom Moen, respectively. Moto two was led by you know who to the checkered. Buffaloe worked up from a slow start for a second and second overall while third overall went to Ed Wagstaff with 4-3 finishes. The hottest race of the day was in the fint moto of the Open Pros. Rob Manning on a 450 Honda pulled the holeshot on Phil Lanan's 465 Yamaha. The crowd swarmed to the track's edge. Manning had opened up about a 10-12 bike lead on Lanan by lap three and the dirt was flying. The blonde blitz began to reel "Monsoon" Manning in by a bikelength or two each lap. With only a few laps to go, Lanan was on Manning's rear fender and Rob had that Honda pegged. But, pushing it to the max caught up to Manning and he went down being unavoidably clipped by Phil. Lanan, concerned about his fellow rider, stopped to check his well being and then remounted to take the win followed by Buck Murphy of Highland Honda and his fellow veteran Doug Raines. Buck, also concerned about Rob's health, took the checkered then rode to the other end of the track to carry Rob to the ambulance. Rob retired for the day but luckily is only nuning some bumps and bruises. In moto two, the stage was set for the two war hones, Buck Murphy and Doug Raines. Time catches up to everyone. Lanan, who had watched and admired Murphy and Raines over the past 10 yean, now is the teacher. Phil showed the veterans the fast lines around the track to the checkered. Murphy, on a 450 Honda, jumped into second, but resourceful Doug managed to find an opening and sneaked by Buck with only a lap to go for second overall. Buck settled fOT third. Our hats go off to the Thunton-Grays Harbor ORV Parlt officials for com- pletely resurfacing the MX track fOT OUT 1981 opener. After a three week layoff for vacations and the Kingdome extravaganza, we had another beautiful racing day. Yamaha support rider Jim Andenan was baclt from the Golden State Series to show us the n tricks he's learned. They worlted well enough to bring him wins in both th 125 and 250cc Pro classes. No one could get close enough t touch Andenan in the 125s, hardl close enough to see him. Sta Thornton (Kaw) followed around i second all day. Gary Harltleroa (Yam) worlted up to third in the li moto then added a founh for third place money. In the second moto Steve Corcoran (Yam) shoolt off hi lint moto crash problems to nab third place.
