However, nothing seemed to slow down Joey Schlag's KTM as he took two fi~t places for the 250cc Expert win. As the gate dropped, the eventual winner was fifth through the first mud hole and rapidly took control of first place. In the second moto, he repeated his strategy (not intentionally!) and came off the line fifth again, but quickly took control. This time, Jerry Brant challenged, but ended up second. The Vohland family was all smiles as Talon Vohland's Yamaha took a first place in 80cc Novice and brother Tyson brought home a first overall in 80cc Expert. However, Tyson's victory was not an easy one! In the fi~t molO, young Mr. Nauman and Mr. Vohland had a wheel-to-wheel battle with Tyson crashing and falling back to eighth. He quickly remounted, worked his way up to Nauman again and again felt the pressure of "ground against body." Never known to give up, he mounted again and finished a tired second. In the second moto, Nauman holeshot and led until his Honda lost a chain. Second place fmisher and first Junior overall was Scott Schubert. As usual, tbe 125cc Junio~ had the most changes of the day. Several crashes and broken machines brought some new names to the winner's circle. Shane Gurnsey finished first overall and Garvin Andrews (in his fi~tJunior race) placed second. Several more new names appeared on the results scoreboard at the end of the day. Wins were credited to Jack Leiser, Veteran Junior; Jerry Auvinen, Old Timer Junior; and Robert Rivenbark, Veteran Novice. Golden State goes to Huron By Jerry Parsons HURON, CA,JAN. 24 Huron Cycle Park hosted t~e fourth race of the DG Golden State Series by offering a challenging and rugged track for the sportsman riders, 34 Harry Hall (Yam) put in a very consistent day by dominating both motos of the I25cc Intermediate Division 1 race. Hall shot off the line into an early lead. Mitch Davis and Taylor Marcell both chased hard on Hall's rear fender as they battled with the quicltly deteriorating track. Marcell soon moved by Davis with Gary Bowman (Hon) taking over third position. Gary DePillo (Yam) was rapidly moving through the pack and took over fourth position. Hall continued pushing hard as his lead continued growing. DePillo kept his charge going strong, moved by Marcell then Bowman to claim second position. Hall continued to lead to the finish with DePilio and Bowman finishing second and third. The second moto got underway with Bruce Jackman trying his hand at the lead. Hall stuck tight to Jackman hoping to get by for a two moto sweep.
