......we. '.................... 0' a oW NOR11IERN DATElINE Church is champ in All-Star Enduro By EIRae Morgenthaler TACOMA. WA.JAN. 4 The 1981 NMA Enduro SerieS started the way the 1980 series ended - with Steve Church winning in impressive fashion. The AII·Star Enduro. sponao~ by Seafair City M.C., was an invitational event comprised of 64 top A and B riders from the state of Washington. An event scheduled for western Washington in early January could expect clear, freezing t~perature. deep snow. heavy rain or even cancellation due to lack of access from flooding or mowdrifts, but as it turned out, the temperature was in the mid-40s with high ~cast skies - perfect for riding. The riders considered the course challenging but fun. Held in heavily wooded forest, the course consisted of approximately 60 miles of tight, good trail. free from horrendous obstacles and interspersed with infrequent shon sections of muddy road. Because of the tightness of the trail, only one rider was staned per minute, a fact much appreciated by them. The schedule for the entire course was set at 18 mph and at the six checks. a totaI of five riders were early or zeroed only checks one, four or five. The fast schedule dramatically sepa. rated the A riders from the Bs as point to.es ranged from 66 to Church's 13 for the As and from OVer 200 to 24 for theBs. The course consisted of the identical loop ridden twice and !rnowledge of the course would have been expected to improve scores the second time around. However. fatigue slowed most riders on loop two. It appeared that the makeup of the course would tend to favor the smaller displacement classes. but Church once again proved his all-around riding ability by winning on a YZ465. Church, 250 A winner Ron Clizbe and Lyle Duronso with 40 points lost took the team trophy for Mt. Baker M.C. • Results OPEN A: 1. S. CIuch -'l23I. , (13); 2. D. Johnson 118); 3. D. OPEN B: 1. Please oa]l for more information Anderson's 6.09 seconds was looking safer, but then Alford came up. He brought his Kawasaki up. left the line and looked fine. He went over in 6.14 seconds to move into fmt, but not good enough for Top Time. Anderson had one more try at first to see if he could break his own time. He had a good run at 6.25 seconds and it moved him into second place in the Exhibition class. Anderson and his triple remained the fastest pair for the day at 6.09 seconds. • Results Anderson excels at Red River hillclimb FINALLY... 6340 Georgetown Lane Middletown, Ohio 45042 (513) 422~22 -• 16.98l; 3.
