tllern Nevada· Southern Call Lawrence roars at CRCDunesMX - By Terry Rezek 00 VALENCIA, CA, DEC, 21 0') Lawrence of Yamaha swept through the Dunes today in a detennined search for gold, leaving chaos and two demoralized classes in his trail. Mark Lawrence went four for four in both the Open and the 250cc Pro classes for two money wins, In moto one of the combined Open Intermediate/Pro class, Doug Taft got the holeshot in' one of the few moves anyone put on Lawrence all day. Lawrence took the lead within onehalf lap of the start. Rob Rollins followed him almost immediately to claim second and Taft was left to argue with Ronnie Gibson. That debate was soon resolved in Gibson's favor and Taft was back in fourth. There was no funher discussion as all four continued on in that pattern to the end with Lawrence opening up an enormous lead by the finish, lapping all the Intermediates except the leader. In moto two, it was clear that Lawrence really had the course wired. In the drag-race to the first turn, he pulled Taft by inches and disappeared in the direction of tbe cbeckered flag and the overall win. Rollins and Gibson also got by Taft for what seemed to be a repeat of moto one, except tbat Gibson was now slightly ahead. This continued for several laps before Gibson bobbled slightly and botb Rollins and Taft got by. There was not enough time left and tbat was the way they finished. Rollins' two seconds earned him second overall and Taft's better finish in moto two gave him third overall. In tbe Intermediate class, Tim Edmonson passed early leader Mark Glassmeier in the middle of moto one and was uncontested tbrough moto two to take first overall. Vince Frudel rode two very consistent thirds right into second overall. Switching to a smaller bike did not lower Mark Lawrence's ambitions. He and Kris Bigelow got the jump on Matt Whiting at the start of moto one of the 250cc Intermediate/Pro race and elbowed each other for two laps until Lawrence got by on lap three. He was taking fuJI advantage of the knowledge of the track gained during the Open race and, once in the lead, simply added several seconds per lap to bis margin. Lawrence had this course wired! He was getting 15 more feet than anyone else off the big jumps and by the middle of the race had lapped all but the top three Intermediates. In tbat class, Mark Parkerson led from start to finish and Randy Commons rode a tigbt second. Matt Whiting decided to do tbe jumping in moto two and beat Bigelow and Lawrence out of the gate. Within half a lap, Lawrence breezed past Bigelow and proceeded to reel in Whiting. He took the lead from Whiting one lap later and Bigelow. who had followed Lawren!=e closely. passed Whiting almost simultaneously to get second. That was the finishing order and the order for the overall finish as well. In the Intermediate class, Parkerson got the holeshot and scampered to the mota win and the overall win . .In.the 250cc Novice/aeginner race. John Reed and Tom Webb swapped first and second in the two motos with Webb taking the overall due to bis better finish in moto two.
