David Gerig leeds Jeff Jennings in the 250ee Pros at CMC Saddlebaek,
Gibson headed both Open Pro
molOS but Staten and Lawrence had a
few bumps and choice words with each
other enroute to splitting the runnerup spot. Lawrence reached the checkers ahead of Staten in moto two and
went home with the number twO
money. Husky rider Jeff Jennings
picked up fourth behind Staten and
Juan Benavidez rode his Yamaha to
fifth.
Johnny O'Mara looked set to reel off
another 250cc Pro win at SSM but a
flat tire at the start of the second molO
ended his win streak. O'Mara topped
the field in race one with Honda support rider Jim Tarantino picking up
the number two Slot ahead of Honda
rider Brian Maloney and Yamaha riders Craig Gormley and Don Griewe.
O'Mara pulled the holeshot in molO
two but never completed the first lap
as his front tire went flat. Tarantino
quickly moved into the lead and
opened up a safe gap between himself
and the pack. Following Tarantino to
the checkers and second overall was
Maloney while Griewe picked up third
place and Gormley fourth.
Suzuk.i rider Ron Turner used his
experience and the superior power of
the new RM water-pumper to pull
away with the win in the 125cc Pro
class.
Yamaha's
newest
molO
sensation, Erik Kehoe, kept the pres·
sure on the fleet Turner but Radical
Ron neve.r looked better or faster as he
knifed his way through lapped riders
enroute to sweeping the race. Kehoe
crossed the line in second as Turner's
Suzuki teammate Bob Elliott cruised
in for third ahead of La Habra
Yamaha rider Mike Beier and Suzuki
R&D champ George Holland.
