TEN YEARS ..... AGO 00 0') ..... The EI Trial de Espana was held at SaddIeback Park, with the profits going to send Bob Nickellen and Kevin WalJr.er to Europe for the Spanish round of the World Trials Championship. Tun Wibon, better known for his motocross skills although he got his stan in trials, instituted a perpetual trophy for the best young rider of the year and it went to Mark Eggar. Eggar finished second in the Expen class behind L.S. Leavitt. The Kids class went to Brian Myencough over David Franklin and Bernard Schreiber. A big motocross was on tap at Indian Dunes, and John DeSoto (CZ) dominated the Pro class, topping Mike R.uDyard and Mark Blackwell. Bryar Holcomb won the Open Senior class, R.ick Shirey took home the 250cc Senior title, and Belgian National Champ Harry Evens took the I 25cc Senior win on a Puch. Indoor shon track racing in San Francisco's Cow Palace found AI Kenyon winning the main event with second and third going to Dave Hall8ell and Bruce Texeira. In a motocross at Cycle Hills near Gilroy, CA, Bob Gram won the Open Expen class. CZ-mounted Brad Lackey won the 250cc Expen class. A Novice was the overall winner of the Comstock hare 'n' hound. Doug Harrilon, aboard a Maico, did the deed in the Nevada event. J.N. R.obens was the winner out in the desert, taking the Pasadena M.C.'s hare scrambles. R.ich Thorwaldson was second. . Things were popping back in Ohio as the American Motorcycle Association raised its annual dues to $7, put together a new membership package, established a full time legislative depanment and hired Mike Vancil for a new job heading Amateur Activities. When all the points were tabulated Whitey Martino was the 0-37 Heavy One, winning the Heavyweight division by 65 points over Rich Thorwaldson. Tom Poteet captured the 250cc division, and Gene Burcham was named top enduro man. _.... ---- KENMAELY "The Shoe Man" ---- _ _1IP,1.50 A motocross in Houston, TX, saw David Music winning the 125cc Expen class, Tony JODes topping the 250cc Experts, and R.obi Holben besting the Open Expens. The first issue of 1971 was headlined Crisis in the Din, reflecting the fact that all four metropolitan southern California counties had passed ordinances requiring written permission to ride on private land. • 2.
