MUENSTER, TX,

Texas hillclimbers have been to
the Red River Cycle Ranch three
times this year and have used
three different hills. For the
climb today, they reworked a hill that
had not been used for several years. It
was 270 feet high with a slight dogleg
in it. This was the first hill used by the
THA this year that gave the big bikes
an edge.
For most of the first round, it looked
as if it were going to be a little slower
than they wanted with very few rides in
the low sevens. It was halfway through
the 750cc class before anyone broke
into the sixes. As might be expected in
Texas. it was Will Alford who did it.
He made it over in 6.23 seconds on a
750 Kawasaki.
The next person to get a six was
Mike Polley. riding a Kawasaki also,
but in the Open class. His time was
6.75 seconds. Tom Anderson piloted
his 1000cc Triumph triple over in 6.60
seconds to push Polley into second,
Polley and Alford were' the only ones
in the Exhibition class to get into the
sixes. Alford and his Kawasaki went
over in 6.30 seconds. Polley's Kaw was
a little slower at 6.85 seconds.
A switch broke on the electronic
clock in the second round and a
change to the stopwatch had to be
made. This made the times a little
slower, making it harder to get a better
time unless the first ride was bad.
One of the closest contests of the day
was in the 250cc class. David Anderson
and Robbie Bailey finished the first
round neck and neck. Anderson had a
time of 7.5846 seconds on the electronic
clock that was barely edged by Bailey
with a 7,5819·second ride. ln the second
round using the watch, Anderson ran
8.30 seconds while Bailey had a ride of
8.36 seconds. Using two different tim·
ing methods, they still ran extremely
close.
One person who bettered his time
was Henry Polley in the 500cc class.
He had a 7.65·second run the first try,
but came back in the second round
with a 6.97·second ride on a SC500
Yamaha. Duffy Douglas had first
sewed up until this ride.
The only other rider to hit the sixes
on his second try was Tom Anderson
in the Exhibition class. He came
closest to Alford with a 6.52·second
ride. Alford took home Top Time
again with his 6.23·second ride in the
750cc class.
The next climb will be December 7
at the Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch.
This is also a hill that has not been
used in several years.

By Charlie Wiese
ROCKWALL, TX, NOV. 2
In the final TMA race of the
year, north Texas motocrossers
were goin' for it each and every
time the gate hit the ground from
Micro Mini to Open Pro in a final effort
to get some of those valuable TMA

c1U1eS, Mark "Peaches" Rakestraw
(Hon) and Kirk "The Kid" Spencer
~Yam) took o~aH wins while providmg spectators WIth some exceUent viewing at the scenic Rockwall MotOCTOllS
Park.
Two words would describe the main
man in Mini Senior action and the
TMA fmal points standings - "Boom
Boom."
Bryan
"Boom

win after Brent bit it big time on one
of the many Rockwall jumps. "Mad"

as Carrizales dropped to third with

.The l2Scc Pros pounded the gate
WIth Mark Rakestraw (Hon) moving to
the head of the payline with a pair of
unmatcbed rides that were your basic
wire-to-wire victories. Second with
equally consistent rides was Rodney
"Red Rocket" Wiginton (Hon) who
found the fast lane in each of the
seven-lap motos. Third in the overall
column was TMA 125cc Pro points
champion Tony "Nitro" Nielsen
(Yam), followed by Ron Kunz (Yam)
who looked smooth at the rapid Pro
pace.
The points race came to a close in
the 2SOcc Pro class just like it staned,
with Kirk "The Kid" Spencer (Yam)
on top. Spencer was flawless once
again with a pair of aces to his credit
as Rakestraw (Hon) finished second in
each action-filled round for second
overall. Third on his Can·Am was the
"Skylab," Dennis Hawthorne whose 4·
3 perfonnance netted him third.
Fourth overall was Mike "Dr. 1" Jones
(Yam) who piloted his "yellow bird" to
founh ahead of Nick "The Stick"
Cordova (Yam) who carded a pair of
fives for a day's work.
Final race of the day was the Open
Pros who were led once again by "The
~id." Putting a wrap on the Open Pro
title, Spencer also got a grip on the
winner's share of the purse as he aced
the competition in consecutive motos.
Second overall was Chris "The Bullet"
Hipp (Yam) with a fine !I·2 effort as
the "Russian" Jon Kolbensvik (Mai)
rounded out the top three with an
excellent 2-5 tally.
