up the overall win, yet the two riders
raced handlebar to handlebar for the
first half of the moto before Jennings
finally took over the lead and Snorteland cruised in for second. Jennings
picked up the second place share of
the purse while Husky rider Clark
Jones charged in for third place ahead
of Locey.
Things went a little easier for Snorteland in the Open class but Harper
and Yamaha rider Juan Benavidez kept
the pressure on. Benavidez glued himself to the rear wheel of Snorteland's
Yamaha for most of the first moto with
the two leaders opening a commanding lead over the rest of the field. Snorteland hung on to reach the checkers
first with Benavidez second and Harper
third.
Moto two was Harper's _turn to
hound Snorteland and they both put
on a dazzling display of riding tech·
nique as they lapped many slower riders. Once again Snorteland was first to
the checkers and Harper had to settle
for second place and second overall.
Benavidez went home with the third
place money while Husky rider Alan
Smith picked up fourth.

North High School pulled off an
unexpected win at the Corona
R.A.C.E. high school MX last
week, putting an end to the Redlands winning streak that began last
year.
North owed its victory to consistent
placing in all the classes without
taking an unusual number of overall
wins. The only win, in fact, in North's
camp came from Andy Packwood
(Yam) in the 175cc Novice class. In the
first moto, Hemet rider Lee Griggers
(Suz) took the win but a second moto
disqualification took him out of the
running and put Packwood on tOp.
In six other classes, North managed
to take second places. Tim Greenstreet
was runner up in the 100cc Senior class
behind Redlands' Geno Reynoza
(Suz). North's Mike Mazzacane (Hus)
and Sidney Woods (Suz) took second
and third behind Hemet rider Walt
Vanderlinden (Hus) -in the 250cc
Novice class, and Iony Martinez
(Kaw) was second to Mike Finders
(Suz) of Redlands in the Mini Senior
class. John Mazzacane (Kaw) was
North's man in the 250cc Senior class,
following Tom Hodgin (Suz) of
Redlands across the line, and in the
Women's division Sue Smith (Yam)
was second to Valencia rider Bonnie
Warsh (Yam). Rounding out the
North score was Scott Mapes (Kaw) in
the 100cc Novice class where he took
second to Eric Fra~er (Yam) of
