Nev8ita-Oregon-washingto":ICI8ho-Utah-AII- ~ Wiant, Williams E wallop Eugene MX o By Suanne Ught 00 EUGENE, OR, NOV. 16 0') ~ ~ C(") i) .D. 8 Q,) U Q,) Cl Despite the fact that the ternperature was near freezing, the racing was hot on the Territorial MX track as perfect track conditioos made for an excellent day of racing. Race number one was the 125cc Pros and blasting out of the hole was ''Jammin' Jimmy" Wiant (Yam of Springfield/Yam) followed by Richard Earle (Gresham Suz/LOP/Suz). As the pack sped out, Clay Light took advantage of a mistake by Earle and moved into second. Wiant by now was smoothly gaining speed but Light went over the bars on the doubles and teammate Earle stopped to help, losing several positions as the pack came by. The two LOP support rideJ;5 soon remounted, caught up and repassed the pack, but Wiant was long gone. At the flag it was Wiant, Earle and Light taking the top spots. Moto two was another Wiant "wallop" as he sped to the front of the pack. Church held down second, Earle third, Light fourth and Kip Classen (Kaw) fifth. Wiant was long gone by the halfway mark with Earle, Light and Kenny Church following trying to keep the-leader in sight. At the flag it was again Wiant who went I-I, Earle 2-2, Light 3-4 for third. For the last few races, the Mini Intermediates have been the r~al seat clincher. Dan Hendricks (Suz) had Brian Springer and Billy Boresek (Kaw) to contend with, but maintained a marginal lead over Boresek. Grady Troglin and Daren Fleming (Suz). In moto two, Boresek wanted the win badly and 'he wasn't going to let Hendricks by, but in a last-ditch pass. Hendricks nailed him good going wide. Third was T-roglin and fourth Fleming. In 250cc and Open Pro action, Steve Williams (Herb's Cycle/Yam) was seen leading sand master Mitch Kirkpatrick (Hus). These two were really goin' for it. Williams made no mistakes looking really good as well as taking the win. Kirkpatrick was on his tail, but couldn't make up the extra ground, going to the flag for second. Second time out, Williams again took his Yamaha support ride into the lead while Kirkpatrick lurked in the pack. As time ran out, Williams took the overall with I-I and Kirkpatrick second going 2-2 in two excellent rides. In all of today's fun and madness, LOP rider Clay Light ended up with a broken right arm and will be out for a month or two, and would appreciate a card. You can write to Clay at 1565 Distinctive Ct.
