Jennings tops
250cc Pros at SSM
By Terry Whytal
ORANGE, CA, NOV. 1
Honda rider Jeff Jennings topped
a tough field of local and National 250cc Pros. Included in the
line-up were Honda riders Jim
Tarantino and Don Conway, Kawasaki:
mounted Gary Jones and David Bailey,
Yamaha rider Pete Snorteland and
Husky pilot Chuck Jones_
Jennings made the victory look easy
as he powered into commanding leads
in both motos, leaving the battle for
second place far behind. Tarantino
and Snorteland went at it for most of
the first moto with Tarantino getting
the nod at the checkers.
In moto two Bailey picked up the
number two spot ahead of Tarantino
while Snortel'!nd dropped to fourth
and Clark Jones finished fifth. Taran·
tino went home with the runner-up
share of the purse while Bailey took
third, Snorteland fourth and Jones
fifth.
Bob Schulz powered his Yamaha to
the Open Pro win. Maico rider Will
Harper pulled the holeshot in both
motos but lack of conditioning from a
long lay-off while recovering from injuries left the Maico rider unable to
hold off the persistent Schulz. Harper
picked up the second place money
while Steve Wiseman rode his Husky to
third overall.
Yamaha rider Kevin Steele held on
to the 125cc Pro victory, despite strong
challenges from Honda rider Micky
Dymond and Yamaha-mounted Tim
Lunde. Dymond won the first moto
but took a back seat to both Lunde
and Steele in mota two, allowing
Steele to take the overall win. Dymond
finished the day with second place
•
honors and third went to Lunde.
