To no one's surprise, Maxima Oil Yamaha rider David McGhee has once again cinched the 125cc Expen cham· pionship as he scored a four straight blast of the ever growing Expert class. The Intennediate wins were divided between Guy Schmidt (Yam) and Ami Lemon (Yam) in the Stock and Modifieds, respectively, as both these fme youngsters continue their march toward the Expen class. And before we leave the 125cc motorcycles, how about new motorcycle rider Mitch Palmer who grabbed both the Modi· fieds and Stocks? Palmer, who has al· ready forsaken the Minis in his first year of racing, went two for two in easy style in the Stocks and took the Modi· fieds in a come from behind tie·breaker over new phenomenon Clint Berger. Moving back to the Minis, new rider Bader Manneh was once again awesome in the 12· to 16-year·old Mini Novices as there was just no competition at all. Your reponer/announcer would like to thank Bob Brown for taking over the mike duties and doing a great job for BarODa and us. Bob will be hand· ling both of the November dates at Barona, and we do thank him very much. And finally, the CMMC annual "Super Banquet" is scheduled for Jan. 5 at the Elks Lodge in EI Cajon, and if you have never attended one of these blasts, come on down for a real great evming. SRA plays two days at DeAnza BySueSenn SUNNY MEAD, CA, NOV. 1·2 The Southland Racing Association's special two-day event featured a total of six races; three on Saturday and three on Sunday, each lasting one and a half hours. The mighty Minis were the first on Saturday and it was Barry Crawford who held the lead from beginning to end on a Suzuki. When this lad is hot he's hot and he's been WFO all year. Bellflower Yamaha's Keith Senn held a comfonable second and these two Experts lapped all but two riders. Claiming third overall and first Ama· teur was Shannon Shamblin (Yam) and fourth overall, first Novice, went to G.W. Kindelberger on a Kawasaki. Jeff Frazier (Yam) and Travis Allison (Kaw) gave each other a good ride while earning second and third Novice honors. Scott Carter (Yam) took an easy first Beginner while Shawn DeJvenne and Kevin Brown placed 2-5. The Odyssey/Tri-Moto overall went to Keith Senn on a Ken Kendricksponsored 125cc Tri·Moto. Senn was threatened once by Chris Neil on a modified Odyssey but hung on for an easy win. Neil baltled the last lap with Mike Kelley on his self·sponsored Tri· Moto right to the finish where the Odyssey took the checkered just yards in front of Kelley. Beverly Ca.rr aced Debbie Kendrick for first girl. The 200cc race climaxed Saturday's events and Expen Jerry Trimble showed his expertise by taking an easy overall win. In the first lap, it appeared as if Roben Miller (Yam) and Roy Poner from Premier Yamaha would give Trimble a run for his money. But Poner dropped out and Miller' dropped back into a comfonable sec· ond, first Amateur. At this point the real race was between the second and third Amateurs battling for third over· all. Jon Speight (Yam) and John Esposito (Yam) continued their battle for the entire 90 minutes and finished in that order. Dan Sullivan (Yam) took an easy first Novice but tried in vain to . pass Amateur Matt Briggs for better position. Jeff Baker claimed second Novice and it was top Beginner Kevin Freymeyer who gave him his money's wonh. They were side by side and still on it as they took the checkered. Bud Massaci (Kaw) took second Beginner followed by Gerald Fasold (Hon) and Darin Gonzales (Suz). Sunday featured the big bikes and Mark Asbury (Kaw) ran away with the Open class. On the first lap. leaders Asbury, Mike Drown, Keith Fearing (C·A), Hoban Bowers, Stepen Vin Curek (Suz), Billy Nash and Charles -
