Paul Matthews grabbed the holeshot, but as the pack headed down into the first tum, Matthews was dropped back into third by Reynolds and Kotajarvi. As they headed into the final two turns of the first lap, Matthews' Suzuki quit, and be was up against the wall waiting for help as the rest of the riders sailed by. Reynolds set up the point as he went into command ahead of Kotajarvi, while Erickson trailed back in third. None of the first three riders could advance in the rest of the moto, so the finishing order went Reynolds, Kotajarvi and Erickson, with Matthews back in the running with fourth, just ahead of Ronnie Densford. Round two saw Kotajarvi work his way into first on the opening lap, then bold on all the way to the checkered flag. Reynolds trailed in second, unable to mount a good enough challenge, and settled for second overall, with Matthews third, Erickson fifth after going down a couple of times in the moto, and fourth overall while Densford came in fifth overall, fourth in the moto. away with both motos if another had problems. In round one, Ortner was the tough one to beat as he worked himself into first place, and stayed there until the finish. Langhammer pulled in second, while Jim Simons nudged out brother Willy for third. In round two, Langhammer was the one' who took over the leading position, and all he had to do was ride it all the way to the checkers for the win. With Jim and Willy Simons right behind, the pressure was on, but Langhammer studt with it and came out with both the moto and overall victory. Jimmy Simons came aCJ'Olll just ahead of Willy for second, and in the overalls their positions were second and fourth. Onner dropped to fourth, and came up with third overall. In Veteran action, Rick Hall swept the Senior division with a pair of moto ·victories over Bob Dunham, while Ron Cole and George Thomas traded moto wins in the Intennediates. By Nanette Marie VALENCIA, CA, OCT. 10 With the evening breeze chilling the nearly 125 competitors who came out to Indian Dunes, the California Racing Club hosted their final round of the Tri Valley Suzuki Dealer's Summer Night Motocross Series, which also marked their final nighttime motocross for the 1980 season . .The big final round drawing was held to give away the brand new Suzuki RMSO, and Maranu Stereo equipment, as well as the racing for trophies, payback money and series gift cenificates. In the Professional ranks, Mark White swept the Open Pros with a dou· ble·moto victory, while Premier Yamaha's Ed Arne! took home the l!50cc ponion with the same sryle of ride, and John Langhammer picked up his first Friday night win as a 1l!5cc Pro withCRC. In the Opens, White's only competition of the evening was Track 'N' Travel's Andy Jannings, but when he pulled out of the second moto with a DNF, White went easily to the overall victory. Ame!'s l!50cc ride was a bit more difficult, as he was hounded by Tom Kelly, Bobby Kline and Rob Tolleson early on. Kline failed to finish either of the two motos, which put a lot more ease into Amet, and he handily defeated Kell'y and Tolleson each of the two motos. Kelly paired two seconds for the same overall ahead of Tolleson. Langhammer had the toughest of the three classes to win. Also running the race were the Simons brothers, Willy and Jimmy, along with Jon Ortner, all three capable of running o.nev lVoml. 125 NOV: 1. John 51* lVoml; 2. Todd CIrmody lVoml; 3. An Equal Opportunity Employer MIFNIH Hilmes, Singleton smoke Corona HM/TT By Elaine Jones CORONA, CA, OCT. 8 With the absence of 250cc Pros to run on the TT portion of the Corona Raceway TT/half mile program it was left to the Open Pros and there was a good contingent of them. It was Pete Hames who took the point off the line with Chris Cannon and Rex Hailey in second and third. 'On the second lap Cannon got by Hames for a short lived lead that was quickly reclaimed by. Hames on the fourth lap. Cannon was sidelined with attrition problems one lap later and Hailey and Mike Baker filled the gap. At the checkered it was Hames, Hailey and Baker with Ross Klatt fourth. Hames had collected one and checked out of the l!50cc Money half mile so he was left with the Open Money. Hames again got one of his super starts that put him where he likes to be, at the head of the pack. It was again Hailey in the second slot ----------• ~~~c~~~~~: lHJ THIS COUPON GOOD FOR 15% OFF ON ANY ACCESSORY ITEM!
