Less than a week after having its debts waived by the British government, Triumph debuted a new trail model at the Paris (France) Show. The new Triumph called the Tiger Trail, is basically a Tiger 750 with Dunlop Trials Universal tires, high handlebars and upswept Siamese exhaust. It is Triumph's first trail bike since the 500cc Trophy of 1970. The Tiger Trail has lower overall gearing compared to its road·only brother and a 21-inch front tire is fitted. Rear brake is a drum unit and the single Lockheed disc is retained at the front. Sounds like freddie Spencer will give the InternatIonal compedtors on the European GP circuit at least one more year's peace. He's signed again with Amerlc:an Honda to conteat the AMA Superblke and Formule One WInaton Pro races .. well .. a few selected special events. Pro-Link, Monoshock, Uni-Trak, Floater: The single shock suspension system may just be showing up on Husqvama and KTM. Both are in rather secret prototype stages. Ohlins Racing Sweden has been developing the single shock unit as well as a model for each of the big four Japanese bikes and is expected to release their unit in February. Chuck Sun (Hon) used the unit in winning the 500cc National Championship. The unit makes use of titanium allowing l00mm of shaft travel and S20mm of rear wheel travel utilizing the same reservoir as on the remote Ohlins. Jimmy Ellis had a bit of a scare while at the airport in Atlanta waiting to pick up his rent-e-cer before the Road Atlanta TransUSA round. Ellis was waiting with Kent Howerton at the rental counter when three policemen told Ellis to come with them. It seems there was a James Ellis in the Atlanta ar88 wanted for a felony. Whet started out as a joke for Ellis turned to a serious matter when almost all of his personal characteristics matched that of the felon. A mole on the neck or the felon that Ellis didn't have finally got Jimmy off the hook after a couple of hours of questioning. 3
