U o 250cc Intermediate win after a crash nearly put him out of the running in the first round. Kelly McGuire (Yam) jumped out of the hole in the first race with Pete Vetrano (Suz) in a close second place. It was on the first lap that Weber went down. While he remounted and staned working his way back to the front of the pack, McGuire was running away with the lead. Pat Halliman (Hon) had passed Vetrano for second, but neither of them were within sight of the leader. It was at the halfway point that Weber shot past both Vetrano and Halliman to move into second. Then he started to reel in McGuire, but the checkered flag came out before the Suzuki pilot could make his move. In the second race, McGuire again took the holeshot with HalJiman in second and Weber in third. It wasn't long before McGuire and Weber had pulled away from the pack in a private duel for the lead. Weber found an opening on the fourth lap and moved into the lead, leaving McGuire to be happy with second place. Overall, the Weber, McGuire, results were Halliman, Mille Kell (Mai) and Butch Peick (Yam). In the Pro ranks it was Andy Orescanin (Kaw), coming back after a long layoff with a broken ankle, who did the jamming. He took both 250cc Pro class motos from start to finish. In the first moto Jeff Prieur (C-A) took second place in spite of some early pressure from Larry Roeseler (Yam). But Roeseler dropped out of the race in the late laps, leaving third to Chris Tarvin (Hon). Tarvin placed second to Orescanin in the next round, with Prieur ~ettin~ third. Danny Burtt was another runaway Pro winner, smoking both Open motos. Rick Zobel got second in round one, but DNF in the next one, giving the spot to Andy Jannings (Mai) over Eddie Michetti (C·~).
