After a welcome intermission which seemed to be saturated with the aroma of mosquito lotion. finals were quickly lined up. First lap leader of the ovices was Kreg Hunt, but Billy Herndon quickly came from a thirdplace start to first on the second lap on his Honda and set sail. leaving Hunt to battle with third-place contender Kevin Brunson. But at the finish, it was Herndon in the lead by over half a straightaway. Hunt and Brunson were second and third. The Junior main started with a super lead by Scott Adams with Gary McDonald second and Jay Beach in third. The second lap, Beach dropped back to fifth and Rich King moved into third followed by Jeff Cooper. At the half. King started closing the gap on Adams who slipped Out of the groove in turn four of the last lap. At the finish it was King. Adams and McDonald. It's always great when a main event gets started before midnight. and here we were before 10 p.m .. no less. with eight ational numbers in the line-up. From start to finish it was Morehead, Ty Cawley and Phil Darcy as Labrie ran out of brakes on the first lap. The battle raged for third, fourth and fifth between Bret Braddy, Bubba Rush and Don Edgins. Phil McDonald, back in eighth at the start, put on the real show working and batding through the pack and finally picking off Bubba Rush on the last lap. SEPT. 13 Experts who know the Motorcycle Raceways track and race it regularly captured wins in the Expert . classes of this GNC Qualifier. The top 10 in each class will compete in the Astrodome on March 15, 1981. Make note that the next qualifier at this track is October 4. 1980. Trey Jorski claimed aU Expert class wins on his green machine. and did it with his usual ease. He took first place in every moto in every class! In the 1,25cc Expert class. Jorski led the first moto with Alvin Myers (Yam) in second all the way. Third place at the finish was taken by Donnie Vance (Hon). In the, second moto, Myers chased Jorski again and held his position until the last lap when Clay Hoenshell (Yam) got around to claim second. Finishing after Jorski in the 250cc Expert class was Hoenshell. who got two seconds. Myers took two thirds. Some very good battles took place in both mOlOS for fourth place. The first moto it was Scott Cook (Hon) who rode and got fourth, Von Roberts (Yam) finished fifth. Todd Smith (Kaw) sixth. In the second moto. Cook chased Myers about half the way until Smith passed, grabbing fourth. Behind Jorski in the Open Expert class, Todd Smith and Mike Smith (Yam) diced for second place in the first moto. M. SEPT. 7 It seemed like "Falls" Valley to- day at Red Branch MX as bikes sli.d out from under riders. on top of riders or mixed it up with other bikes. Chris Swank (Mug) rode to a first overall (2·1) in the Expert Pot Race. The first moto, Mark Thomas (C-A) pulled the holeshot with Bob Sanford (Yam) and Lance Crawford (Yam) tail: ing. Thomas went down about the middle of the moto and Sanford led the way to the checkers. Swank moved up through the pack after a bad start to capture second. Hiram Simmering (Hus), with problems of Ilis own; rode well to make up ground and earn third; Crawford finished fourth. The second moto, Crawford came out of the gate first with Swank shadowing, then passing. Crawford, in second, felt pressure from Sanford ",ho found his spot, passed and finished second with Crawford third and Von Roberts (Yam) fourth. . The big guys went at it in the combined Open Novice and Amateur class with Jim Vaughn (Kaw) leading the first round. Marvin Mussyal (C-A) rode second, was challenged and passed by Brian McKinley (Suz). Mussyaltook third. • Vaughn again took over. and dominated the second moto. Mussyal ' rode second across the finish with John Foley (Mai) taking third. This writer has. on many occasions, seen owners of tracks being verbally criticized and abused.
