It was in the next moto that Benavidez put his Can-Am in front out of the hole, then crashed and gave Staten the ll;ad_ Northrup inherited second and Benavidez overcame several more setbacks and remained in third. On the sixth lap of the moto, Staten came into some lapped traffic. made a bad move and crashed hard. Northrup went on to win the race with Benavidez second and Phil· Thorstensen (Hon) third while Staten was helped off the track. The Yamaha rider was complaining of pains in his knee, hip. and chest and didn't know how this would effect his performance in the TransUSA series. The 250cc Intermediate class had some new names on top of the scoreboard. All through the first moto Tim Hammel (Yam) and Kevin Brooks '(Yam) diced for the lead and pulled far away from the rest of the pack. Ken Campbell (C·A) had started in dead last but by the end of the moto had moved into a distant third. Across the finish it was Hammel, Brooks, Campbell, Mike Knueven (C-A) arid Dave Hams (Mai). In the final round, it was the exact same scene only this time Hammel was able to pull a small lead. Campbell once again worked !}is way up to third from a poor start and Ken Donovan (Hon) filled fourth over Hams. In the ·125cc Pro class Mike Edson of Yamaha of Redlands pulled off an overdue win by virtue of his 2-2 score. The first moto went to Jerry Raymer (Yam) over Edson and Jeff Edwards (Suz) but in round two Raymer went down and Warren Bell (Suz) made some daring moves to take the win_ Bell's first moto fourth place put him in second overall over Edwards and Raymer. o 00 0') ...-4 Results MINI BEG: 1.
