These conditions didn't seem to bother Ray Sanchez of the Masters class and he rode away with a great looking first place trophy. In the Expert division, the star performer in the first moto was Tom Widick. Tom didn't get the best of starts but the ending was all his, Tom overtook Dan Sanchez on the ninth lap for the lead and then held on to win that prized first place, Sanchez came in with a very good second place, and following Dan was Ted Holt in third. The second moto featured lots of action between Tom Holt and Tom Widick. After quite an exchange of lead positions, it was Holt in first place, Widick in second and following Widick was Sanchez. Amateur Buzz Moelle"r started the action and held on to his lead until lap six, George Spearing took over then and continued on with the power to finish first. Powering in with a good second place win was Lowell Smith. Asker Larnkjear who is seldom left out of the winning circle was in again with third. The second moto began again with Moeller but Buzz kept his lead this time and went on for the high win. Lowell Smith who was second at the start also crossed the finishing line in that position, Doing some fast riding and taking third place win was Bob De Miranda. Connie Holt had the winning ways in moto one for the Novices. Connie took the holeshot and dominated the track for the win. Coming in second place was Ray Montoya, and third place winner was Curt Wyatt. The sec- ond moto looked good for another Holt win, but he took a spill on lap six. Curt Wyatt shot into the lead which he carried to the finish for a first. Bob Coffman did enough passing to come in with a nice second place victory. Breezing in with a third place win was Ray Montoya. Results MASTERS: ,. Roy Sanchez IYaml, EXPERT: 1. Tom Widick IYom); 2. Tod Holl. AMATEURS: 1. Lowell Smith (Yom); 2. Bob De Miranda IMoi}; 3. Snorte/and, Hansen, Kehoe catch CRC San Dle,o QualHler wins By Nanette Marie VALENCIA, CA, SEPT. 7 Some 400 riders were on hand Sunday at Indian Dunes for another qualifying round for California Racing Club San Diego Stadium Amateur Supercross Championships, and were accomodated with an all-new International track. International Yamaha's Mark White rocketed into the first Open Pro moto lead. DG/Premier Yamaha's Pete Snorteland, Edwin Arnet and Jimmy Holley were running right behind him. On the next lap, Holley moved into third, and began ,,!,orlr.ing on Snorte- land. It took ~ laps before the Kolbe/ O'Neal rider could slip up into second, but he was still not ahead of Snoneland. White went down and dropped to third on the seventh lap, and Snorteland took over with Holley's Can·Am breathing ftre from behind. Two laps later, Holley took over, and held on to we the moto win, Snorteland and White came in 2-3 with Bob Schulz and Bill Hagen rounding out the top five. Round two in the Opens saw Snorte· land take the hoieshot this time with White, Holley, Hagen and Steve Hutchens close behind. Holley slipped . into second on the second lap, then got Snorteland on the next circuit. From there it looked lilr.e Holley would run away with it, but on the eighth his Can-Am stopped dead and refused to run anymore. With three laps left, Snorteland took over once more as White rode steadily behind, and when the checkers flew, it was Snoneland, White, Hagen, Hutchens and Schulz talr.ing the top five slotl, and almost the same overalls, with the exception of Hutchens and Schulz, whose overall positions were the reverse of their last moto finish. In the 250cc ranks, as the pack headed into the fint turn, Pete Snorteland and his DG/Premier Yamaha were back on top. LOP's Milr.e Brown took off in second just ahead of Donnie Hansen, Scott Curtis, Bill Keese, and Jerry Black, while Holley motored around in 10th. The top five held their positions for four laps, before Holley took over in fifth spot. On the .eighth lap Holley picIr.ed o 00 0") ~ Y-'YrhYhYREA HOUND Dlii.1CT ~7 ~.- 0::dYJ AMJ 19
