Cool crowd at DeAnza By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA, AUG. 17 TNT Maico pilot Greg Zitterkopf finally took the double moto win at DeAnza Cycle Park which has eluded him for quite some time. It was the coolest Sunday of the summer so far, letting everyone race a little harder, but it was Zitterkopf alone .who dominated the 250cc Pro class through both motos. Keith Dysen of Pomona Valley Kawasaki held down second place in. moto one, but he was recieving severe pressure from Suzuki of Riverside's Jon Friesen (C-A) in the early laps. Friesen eventually went down, leaving Fred Combs (P.V. Kaw) to take third. In round two, Combs led for several laps before Zitterkopf shot by. The lead actually went ba.ck into the hands of Combs just before the halfway mark when Zitterkopf got out of shape on a steep uphill and had to walk his bike to the top before getting back up to speed. Combs went flying by, but was repassed one lap later. Then it was Combs' tum to slip up and he fell in. a tum and allowed both Dysen and Danny Bunt to get by him. They fmished in that Older and overall it read Zitterkopf, Dysen. Bunt and Combs. On the Pee Wee scene it was Tim Galatioto (Yam) who stole, the show. He walked away from both motell, leaving Jason Collier and his Seven· Eleven Yamaha to take IeC01ld. Third place in both motos went to Mad Matt Foster (Yam) over Wesley Klein (Yam) while Christopher Lowen (Yam) and Kim Robenson (Suz) traded fifth and sixth with Lowen coming out ahead in the tie-breaking second round. In the Mini Intermediate class. Terry Fowler took both rounds riding for Summit Porsche on his Yamaha. Rich Galatioto (Sw) went 3-2 for second over Rincon Kawasaki rider Jeff Schaeffer's 2·3 score. Taking fourth in both rounds was Leonard Robenson (Suz). Timonthy Jasper put in the hottest ride of the 250cc Novice class. He led his class through every lap of both motos on his High Desen Kawasaki. Victor Nunez (Yam) put his Yamaha in second in both rounds while John Mitchell (Suz) went 4·3 for third place brass. . Taking the Open Novice class once again was Mark Sullivan (Suz). Sullivan smoked both motos while Mike Taylor, who hasn't ridden motocross in two years, put in a good ride for second on his Ray Arnold· sponsored Yamaha. Results PEE WEE: 1. In the first moto he was in the lead' all the way with only Mike Blake (Hon) to keep him company. Blake pressured Weber in the Farly laps, but he overshot a tum and that almost cost him second place with Ken Campbell (C-A) gaining valuable time. In round two it was Campbell on top all the way while Weber sat in second. Blake came off the line in the middle of the pack, but soon caught up to the leaders. They finished like that with Weber getting the overall, Campbell second and Blake third. The Pro classes were just reruns of previous weeks. Rex Staten (Yarn) took the 2505 again w~hile Juan Benavidez ~Yam) and Andy onhrup once more tried to topple .m without success. And in the 125s it was Troy Leee and his KTM duplicating last week's performance. Second place in the 125cc class went to Brent Blount (Yam) in both rounds while Eddie Glover (Yam) played third. Turning back to the Intermediate ranks, 125cc division one saw Brian Tripp (Yam) follow Fred,DeVris (Yam) through the first moto tum one and then jump into the lead. Gary Clark (Yam) eventually moved into ~ond, but he couldn't quite catch Tripp. In the next race, Tnpp and Clark traded the lead several times, but Tripp was on top when it counted. Taking third in that round a(ld third overall was Mike Word (Suz). Craig Cable (Yam) took both rounds of division two, leading every lap except one. 1Chip Vogel (Yam) held off Cable early in the second moto, but he eventually gave in. Third place brass was given to Gary Harris (Suz) with a 2-5 ~ore. Rick Vanderham (Yarn) had the top score in the 250cc Novice class at 2-1. Doug Dave won the first moto, but had to be satisfibd with a founh in round two for setond overall. Dennis Panon (Yam) got two thirds for third in the final tally. Results MINI BEG: 1.
