Smit h aga in was battling with Bryant for third. But the close ra cing came to an end when both Claassen and Bryant wen t down in separate m ishaps putting Lund and Smith in solid first and second places. Bryant was able to finished in third with Claasen fourth . FIVe 250cc Pros along with two Open Pros lined . up ready to terrorize th e Sixes track and as the gate dropped , Open rider Dave Creech pulled int o the lead. Creech's lead was short-lived as he 'stalled his big Yamaha , this leaving the door open for Chris Alberts . Chris came to the Sixes track in high style, arriving in Rex Staten's cube van. Chris and Rex Staten's mechanic, Tom Volin , are roommates from Coos Bay and Tom was home on a short vacation. Alberts continued to lead with David Reimer in second and Tom Stillion in third. Reimer put the pressure on Alberts for several laps and at one point tried to pass , but in the process he stalled his Honda letting Stillion by for second. Stillion then took over wh ere Reimer left off and he and Alberts were soon lapping riders. This reall y got Alberts yelling as he tried to make the slower riders move over . Alberts was able to make a clean pass bu t Stillion was detained for just a second which is all Alberts needed to get to the checkered flag in first . Stillion came in second with Reimer in third . First Open rider was Fred Lamberson. In the second mo to , Alberts was first out of the hole and again was first to . me finish. Reimer came in second after Still ion vacated that spot due to a very sick sounding Yamaha. In third was Eureka rider Doug Frisbee on his Honda. In the first moto, Elmer held off Portland Oldtimer Bill Naylor who was piloting his "Kit Kat Club of Reno" special. Naylor was unable to catch Elmer after attempts to slow Elmer with bribes of cold Leer du ring the race failed. After the first moto, Naylor was seen sleep ing in his lawn cha ir soaking up the sun while Elmer was busy running back and forth wate ring the track and handling complaints . This was obvious ly a Naylor plot, to rest up while Elmer exhausted himself. The second moto rolled arou nd and . Na ylor had one foot on his starting block, a fou r-inch high block of wood used by non -tall people so they can sit on the ir tall Yamahas on the start ing line. EImer was also on the line, al though looking a bit tired. Hayden Waddington was on the line on his Maicadi, a 1964 Ducati 250cc engine in a Maico frame. When the gate d ropped, Elmer leaped his Suzuki into the lead with Naylor close behind. But as in the first moto , hard work and ' clea n living prevailed as Elmer again led to the checkered flag . Bill Na ylor came in second and 64·year.old Waddington came in in sixth. Results 125 PRO:1. Carey Lund !Y am); 2.. RK:k Smith !Y am); 3. Jell Bryont(Hon). 250 PRO: 1. Chris Albens (Vam); 2.
