I NomEMomiiNE·.. . o Sacto Jammers host MX Jamboree .• I a t Pralrle C·ty (j') By Mel White III loa E 00 .- · 44 SACRAMENTO . CA , AUG . 3 Today's motocross race at Prairie City OHV Park was promoted by the Sacramento Jammers Motorcycle Club , They are family ori ented, although singles are welcome as well ,' and very democratic. Everyone has a vote, which may account for a l2 -year -old getting himself elected Sergeant-at-Arms. Competition is irnportant, but they do other things as well and if you live in the Sacramento area you might want to check them out at one of their meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, Sp.m. at Rudy's Hideaway. Today's race demonstrated that they indeed know racing. The track was ex cellently prepared and watered so it maintained traction all day and ever got dusty. Every detail was covered , from the assurance of having Parts-InThe-Pits there right down to engraving the trophies. Yamaha support rider Da vid Wood was the big winner of the da y, winning all four of his motos, On the Open bike he had the holeshot in th e first moto and took it all the way. Dan Schorf (Mai), Jeff Cloutier (KT M) and Steve Coffey (Mai) all were ahead of Wood at the start of mota two , but by the th ird lap Wood had taken over again for keeps . On the 250s, Allen Berluti ( M ai),~ Randy Chapman (Mai) and Dean Shultz (Suz) traded and shared second, th ird and fourth but Wood took all th e firsts. Danny Bassett (Yam) was first up the start and stayed in the lead for most of the first moto of th e 125cc Novices. Behind him . and continuously jockeying for position. came Dave West (Suz) , Glenn Davis (Yam) , Jeff Cabral (Suz) a nd Steve Magnani (Suz). When Bassett finally relinquished his lead , it was Cabral that took it over and held on for the checkered flag . Magnani got past for second and Bassett settled for th ird. The d rop of the gate in the second moto let Magnani out first followed closely by Davis. Magnani crashed be fore he had completed the first lap, giving th e lead to Davis. Bryan Glover (Suz) and Steve Panovich (Ya m ) were in front of Cabral in fourth place and Bassett in fifth . By the third ' lap Cabral was into second place and closing on Davis. T ime ran out and Davis was ac ross th e finish line with Cabral inches behind. First overall went to Cabral, second to Davis. Two Hondas ridden by James Dick man and Marty Cunningham leaped off the line first in both motos of the 125cc Amateurs. Dickman was fated to DNF both motos while Cunningham ba iled off both times but remounted to finish late. In the first moto, John Frampton (Yam) took over the first position and stayed there to the end. Jim Rolewicz (Hon) took over in th e. second moto to score the winning ride. But it was Kevin Bixby . mounted on a Yamaha from Wright's Motors in Lodi , who had the best combination and cla imed the first overall trophy for his two strong rides. Danny " Magoo" Chandler (Hon) swept the 125cc Expert motos. Spoof 'Pen a (Yam) holeshot moto one followed b y fresh Expert Steve Richards (Yam).
