We have to wat ch at 6 o'clock to find out how bad we have it here . The morning skies looked fairly promising but a co uple of da ys of ra in left th e track look ing yukki e enough to scare a way a few of the less hardy • souls . It was th eir loss. By the tim e practice was over the tr ack was begi n ning to shape up into near perfec t condition. One mysteri ousl y fed mudhole remained just before th e fin ish line. This hol e claimed a victim in th e fina l race of th e day. Kris Swanson (Suz) was riding his first motocross race as a Min iJunior. He made it a ll the way to the last lap then skittered in th e mud 30 feet from the checkered. Fortunately ly, he only twisted and bruised his leg in th e fall . Mike Klenke (Suz) was win ner a ll th e way for the class . Carey Lund (Su z), ridi ng ex hibition as a Mini Expert , put on a sho w with Er ic Hall (Yam). Er ic rook both Mini rnotos but when th ey were la ter pa ired. in th e 125cc Intermediat e class, t hey split th e wins. Carey took th e fina l. T he 125cc Junior class neve r seems 10 la ck in en tertai nme nt. T od a y ·was no d ifferent. J on Dunn (Suz) p rou dl y led th e firs t half of th e first moto while riders be h in d him slid a nd slithered a ll over th e p lace . T hen Jon went dow n , 100 . Wes Swea ringen (Yam) inherited the lea d a nd hel d it to the flag. La rr y H ofen b red l (Suz) calm ly followed in second . Wes ca me back to lead the second moto a lmost all the way. Two la ps from the end he went down. This time Larry Sahlie (Yam ) was in lin e for the lea d . O nce again Hofen bred l was second , but those two fi nishes gav e him the overall win . W es spe nt the rest of the day lim ping aro und the tower looking fo r sympa thy. whether for the wou nd ed leg or for the fifth overall he wound up with . I' m not sure. Pr os, of co urse , wer e in short su p ply becau se it looked like it m igh t be mud dy. Those who stayed all ran 10get her. Ba rney Newm a n (Yam) led both m otos wire 10 wire for first Open . In the firs t moto Mitch Kirk patrick (H us), also Open , fo llowed all th e way in seco nd .
