Ma loney piloted his CR250 Honda into th e early lead of moto one with Devich glued to his rear fender. Rounding out the top five were Honda rider David Hammond, Ka wasaki-mou n ted And y Guthand Yamaha ace Tibor Papp. Devich put the move on Maloney on lap two and slipped into the front spot with Maloney fighting to regain the lead. Guth took a fall and Papp inherited fourth place and a running battle with Yamaha rider Gary Truesdill. With five laps completed Maloney got back on the gas to dive under Devich and regain the lead. Devich threw it away as he made a bid to repass Maloney. Unhurt, Devich remounted still in second and held that position to the finish . Maloney took the checkers with a big lead as Hammond crossed the line third ahead of Suzuki rider Pete Murray and Papp. The second moto start was a near carbon copy of the first as Maloney rocketed into the front spot as the pack charged onto the track with Devich once again settling in at second place. Da llas Mu lholland worked his Suzuki into third ahead of Truesdill as the first lap dust cloud settled. On the next go -'round Papp charged u p from a slow start to bump Truesdill back to fifth . Maloney slid down in the tree turn as his front tire washed out and Devich took over the lead. Pa p p continued his charge toward the leaders by passing Mulholland and closing in on Maloney who had remounted quickly to hang onto second. Devich was safely cruising out front with a big lead that Maloney tried chiseling awa y at but a slipping clutch and another fall in the same corner dropped him from contention. As the one-lap flag came out Papp made a tremendous charge to close within seconds of the struggling Maloney but fell a few feet short. Devich took the overall win with second going to Maloney and Papp picking up the third place money ahead of Murray. The 125cc Pro race was quite a battle between Yamaha riders A.J. W h iting , Rick Maki and David Taylor. Whiting ro de to the first moto win ahead of Maki and T aylor but in moto two Taylor got the holeshot a nd left W hitin g and Ma ki to argue over second. Ma ki and Whiting weren't alone in the duel for second, however, as Kurt McCuistion put his Kawasaki into the fray . Whiting nearly caught Taylor as the checkers came out but Taylor held on to finish with a 3-1 score and take second overall behind Whitinll:'s 1-2 1""""4 SANCTIONED 25-lap NATIONAL TT Sat.
